Hey Hey :D

I'm Marty from Belfast in Northern Ireland. I quit my ob pediatric nursing to come travel South America for a year. Before this I guess i worked in bars and restaurants traveling when I can. I love, love, love travelling! I've been to many a country - including have lived 2 years in Australia, 2 summers in Spain, a semester in Belgium, 3 years in Scotland, 2 years in London and 6 weeks in both Croatia and Thailand!

I enjoy many things! Especially anything that involves contact with new people. I thrive on meeting new people. In my own spare time I love to watch movies, tv-shows, reading (when I can drag myself away from my phone, Im getting better at this :P ), chatting to random strangers...

Things that generally make me happy are coffee, cooking (I'm not the best but I love, love, love to cook) and trying new foods, sweet things, live music, beer (don't judge me because I'm Irish :P), politics, going exploring and so on.. I could go on forever you know!

Anyone you meet who knows me will tell you that I am a very open, approachable and sociable person who is more than happy to listen as well as talk about different experiences. At the core - I'm just a big kid at inside who loves to love and

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Well to be fair! I have travelled much in the past but never really give CS a proper chance. Now as I am on an internship in Belgium I want to step outside of my comfort zone and travel as much as possible. m a very outgoing person and will literally speak to anyone in any situation. CS for me is very much in line with what I believe to be real travelling. Staying with a local and going to see all the real tourist attractions and not just the common photo opportunities.

I think CS is one of the few things that can really challenge me in terms of stepping outside of my comfort zone BUT ITS A CHALLENGE I AM READY FOR!

Interests

Running! I love it! I started 12.5 yeards ago and have since run 24 marathons/ultra-marathons which Belgium, Spain, Greece and all over the UK. I am hooked but hey it is keeping me fit and healthy. After a break of almost a year I am not looking forward to running the Sao Paulo marathon next year!

Music, Movies, and Books

Ah Gee! I could go on forever again! I have watched most movies and can apprecite many genres. To keep it simple - anything with Robin Williams in it is generally a good movie for me. My favourite is Patch Adams - this very much relates to who I am!

As a surfer I could share all my experiences, I also could teach to Irish slang and tell you about my country and my culture. I really like to talk and walk around with people, i also like to listen and understand how they think and how they see this world.
