ABOUT ME
First of all, I suppose I should say that I grew up near Cleveland, Ohio in the Midwest of the United States, as this probably colors my world view. Other than that, I would say that my real passion is travelling and getting to know the world. I'm of the opinion that it is a damn shame that life is so short and I probably won't get to see and experience everything this planet has to offer. I was extremely lucky as a child to have loving parents who loved to travel themselves and took me all over the world, and now I'm continuing that mission as an adult. That being said, I'm trying to do my best to experience what I can with the time that I have. Above all else, my favorite thing to do is explore cultures that are new to me. Maybe most of all I love to try unique foods from around the world. There's nothing I won't try at least once, so if you're from somewhere far from the United States and have got some local delicacy you want the world to know about, I would love to be your vicarious ambassador as best I can.
My hobbies include travelling as much as I can, reading about advancements in science and technology, playing musical instruments, and following world politics. As an undergraduate student in Ohio I studied Political Science, Econonomics, and what was called Russian and Central Eurasian Studies. Now, as a graduate student, I am in a program called an International Masters in Russian, Central, and East European Studies.
Most of all I try to be an honest person who is interested in others and the world we live in, so feel free to contact me if you think we might get along.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I am fairly new to Couchsurfing; I had heard about this travel network when I was an undergraduate in Ohio because many of my friends had used it during their times in Europe in order to find new friends and places to stay. In addition, my girlfriend has used it quite a bit to meet new people and stay in various places in both Europe and Asia, so I had heard nothing but positive things. I had not actually personally experienced couchsurfing until very recently in Omsk, Russia, when I needed a place to stay for a few days and met up with hosts who were absolutely fantastic in their hospitality and really exemplified what I gather to be the spirit of this project.
In the future, I intend to use Couchsurfing much more frequently in order to meet new people and learn about their cities, and want to offer whatever resources I have to help others looking to travel around and meet new people. Now that I have a spacious house, I would like to get involved in hosting more, as previously I have just surfed.
