About Me

ABOUT ME
Retired from US Navy in 1994. I retired in October 2014. Moved to a new apartment in 2016 and am not set up to host. I like to bike locally and in Pennsylvania from time to time. I spend most of my time reading, biking, and with my nearly grown boys. I occasionally play a little baseball or basketball with my boys. I don't do the night life thing but an occasional Broadway play and a dinner in Manhattan is not bad.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Enjoy traveling and meeting new people. I'm still getting two boys through high school and college but hope to be able to host very soon. I plan to do some serious cycling around the USA and Europe and would love to make connections for places to stay with locals wherever I go. I'm also hoping to host in a few months. I recently went through a divorce and am still setting up my new place (buying furniture) so the apartment is a bit bare at the moment.

Interests

Family, sports, bicycles, politically conservative along lines of William F. Buckley Jr. and Ronald Reagan, football, Catholic but raised Baptist, originally from South Carolina. Bi-lingual - speak Italian because I lived in Italy for 7 years working for NATO.

Music, Movies, and Books

CS Lewis, William F. Buckley, Hayek. Like lots of music including country, pop, classical, blues. Ones I like listening to now are Kelly Clarkson, Cher, Heart, Beatles, Dave Clark Five, Dan Fogleburg, lucia di lammermoor, anything Bach.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Played football for three years in Italy after not having played for nearly 20 years. I was stationed in Italy with the US Navy and discovered that there was an American Football team in the area. I went to meet the owner with the notion of just coaching but the team soon convinced me to play. I played for three years and we came in 2nd in the country my final year. It was like reliving "Glory Days" if you know Bruce Springsteen.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach about raising kids, surviving divorce, economics, Federal Government contracting, accounting, cycling, politics, economics, automobile maintenance, religion, life.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook you a great pasta dish. I make penne alla vodka, pesto, pollo alla francese, carbonara...... Or something I had last night was a can of smoked herring drained well over rice heated with garlic, grape tomatoes, and parsley. Eventually when I host I would not anticipate socializing with guests much but would mainly provide a place to crash and some advice on how to get around. When folks come to New York, however, they don't dream of staying in Staten Island since we are about a 45 minute bus ride from Manhattan, or a more romantic ferry ride, but it takes longer.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, England, France, Germany, Grenada, Honduras, Italy, Martinique, Panama, Portugal, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland

Countries I’ve Lived In
