Overview
About Me
Hey, I’m Mary! Originally from Chicago, I am currently living in Göttingen, Germany to study Tropical and International Forestry. On the side, I’m organizing a hitchhiking race [https://www.facebook.com/events/417227992448016/?ti=icl] and trying to spend my days planting trees in the tropics 🌱🌳
More than anything, I love learning about and supporting peoples’ passions. Everyone has such distinct goals and dreams, and I find it fascinating how different they all are. What is yours? How would you spend your life if nothing (time, money, societal pressures, etc.) could get in the way?
You can read some of my old profiles if you haven’t had enough already lol...
Profile from senior year at Purdue:
“Hi! I'm Mary.
I'm a senior in college who has turned her undergraduate studies into a chance to see the world! I play ultimate frisbee and can roll in a kayak 😊 let's meet up, have some good conversations, and explore a corner of the Earth”
My first profile from when I was traveling for a summer in Europe:
"I am no stranger to couchsurfing, but this is my first time having my own account. All of my previous couchsurfing has been done with my travel companion, Xenia Pla.
Following my exchange in Copenhagen, I have been traveling around Europe by meeting with friends, couchsurfing, and attempting to hitchhike! I hope to get to meet you and learn your story 😊"
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Well.... it’s my favorite thing! It allows strangers to share ideas, create memories, and form spontaneous friendships.
I also love that couchsurfing allows you to have genuine cultural experiences while visiting a foreign country. Who better to teach about local traditions than a local themselves?

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
During the last days of my seven month stay in Europe, I attempted to bike from Copenhagen to Amsterdam to catch my flight home! It was an incredible solo adventure and a perfect challenge. During the journey, I was caught in three thunderstorms and slept on a concrete bench (and I loved every minute of it!!) I made it just shy of Hamburg before relinquishing my bike to a nice German woman and hitchhiking the rest of the way. Next time I'm in Europe and I don't have a flight to catch, I want a redemption ride 🚲
