About Me

My name is Mary Ellen and I'm a communications professional in DC.

ABOUT ME

I'm inspired by passionate people and authentic conversation. I love to dance, read, try new foods, go to museums, music festivals and the theater, hike and of course, travel. I studied anthropology and love nothing more than diving into a new culture. I'm an extrovert who also enjoys her alone time and equally loves a loud dance floor or an evening with a novel.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing to meet new people and learn all I can about other cultures and places. Staying with or meeting locals truly makes the travel experience!

Interests

Books and dancing are my favorite things. I also love theater, playing tennis and eating spicy food. I love the city life, but need some time in the mountains and woods.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books by Jose Saramago and China Mieville, Jason Bourne movies, really old Delta blues music and New Orleans brass bands, bachata, motown, Lykke Li and just about anything I can dance to. Community, Psyche, Sherlock, Doctor Who.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I hiked down one of the steepest canyons in the world at night, during a thunderstorm, using the light from our cellphones. It was worth it.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd love to teach you some swing dance moves, tell you some true tales of New Orleans (my favorite city in the world) and the American South, whip up a mean quesadilla pie, and I can even teach you some Georgian (as in, the country) toasts to say over wine.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Adventure stories, Tex-Mex cooking skills, dance moves, late night cultural conversations.
