ABOUT ME
You will often find Mary reading books about travel, hiking, the misadventures of wayward souls, the evolution of agriculture, nutrition, physiology or human history. She loves public libraries and thinks that education should be free for everyone.
Dale loves natural surroundings, camping and the outdoors and is always keen on a friendly chat with a passing stranger.
PHILOSOPHY
Mary and Dale share a common philosophy that being kind to and learning from others will take you far in this world. Dale especially thinks it’s his mission in life to put a smile on everyone’s face.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Mary and Dale joined this community to meet different people, exchange stories and learn about world cultures. In doing so, we will help build the community by being honest members and hosting other Surfers when we get back home.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Mary and Dale have shared houses with friends and are constantly hosting our friends as they travel. While we have not yet had an official CouchSurfing experience, we are well versed in sleeping on our friends’ couches and in their spare rooms.
Interests
Mary loves to read, watch people interact, run, cycle and hike up tall mountains. She is most interested in learning all of the ways that people around the world are self-sufficient and then applying some of those skills to her own life.
Dale likes hiking in the outdoors, camping, fishing and playing a bit of guitar. He also enjoys meeting new people from different cultures and loves a good chat.

Music, Movies, and Books
Mary enjoys watching movies on a rainy day, reading personal narratives of adventurers and going to wacky theaters like the Cinema Paradiso in Wanaka, New Zealand or The Roxy in Victoria, BC for date nights.
Dale likes all types of music and feels that most types of music have their place for various occasions, but especially has an interested in Blues.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The most amazing things Mary has done so far are trekking to the top of Jim Jim Falls in Kakadu National Park in Northern Territory, Australia with Dale.
Dale can’t decide which was more amazing, two weeks camping and fishing in remote Arnhem Land in The Northern Territory, Australia or rafting down the Trisuli River in Nepal that dissects the Himalayas.
Teach, Learn, Share
Mary has a formal education in how to spin a yarn and whip you into shape (BA in Communications, certificate in personal training), so she can help you promote your business, write the story of your life (with some creative editing) or turn you into a lean-mean-fighting machine. She also knows how to weave a basket, pack a backpack for vegan hiking, dehydrate wholesome vegan hiking meals and find the most time and cost efficient way to travel from point A to point B. She would love to learn how to plant a tropical perennial garden and to get off the grid when she moves back to Australia.
On a practical note, Dale has nearly two decades worth of experience working with computers and networking systems. On the fun side, Dale has a knack for musical instruments, including the guitar, ukulele, harmonica and didgeridoo. He is also an experienced salt and freshwater fisherman and a practical outdoorsman, with skills that include being able to start a fire in the rain and tying a knot for any occasion. Given time, Dale can diagnose what’s troubling your vehicle and maybe even find a solution.
