About Me

I am a student at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. I've been here for four years trying to decide exactly where my academic passions lie. Currently I am pursuing a Sociology major with minors in Political Science and Spanish. Before college I lived in a smaller beach town in North Carolina called Wilmington where my family still lives. My mother's side, however, is from the Mediterranean island country of Malta which is where I was born and spent the first few years of my life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'll be studying abroad in Spain from May 2015 until the beginning of June 2015 and I'm certain I'll want to explore what I can of Europe before I fly back over to my real life. An adventurous summer spent strolling distant streets and experiencing unfamiliar cultures, what could be better! Only issue being I am a broke college student who is inept at budgeting. I would love to forgo expensive, boring hotels in exchange for real, personal travels. Not only would it save me an unheard of sum of money, the opportunity to forge foreign friendships and see cities through a native's suggestions sounds immensely more attractive.

I have not yet used Couchsurfing to stay with anyone but I am an easygoing, adaptive person. Having someone interested in spending a little time together to grab a beer or stroll around would be wonderful but I'm also very independent and would not mind a bit if you do not have the time or desire to do so. I'll simply be appreciative of your hospitality and mindful of your preferences and spend my time exploring on my own.

Interests

I enjoy a number of random activities that I often forget about, abandon, then pick back up. I used to love cycling until I moved to a city that had more hills than I could manage. I hope to get back into it and actually go up more than one mild incline before giving up. My dream would be to live in a city where I could rely entirely on biking and public transportation.

A quick summary of my interests would go something like this:
Talking walks around unexplored locations, listening to the stories of others, checking out musical suggestions, reading novels that confuse or frustrate me, playing slow-paced, strategy based video games that don't test my terrible reflexes, and spending time around those who have compelling histories or goals.

Music, Movies, and Books

Musical genres annoy me although that is likely because I don't understand them. Regardless, I find myself enjoying a variety of music though I typically prefer songs with a lyrical focus.

As for movies, it doesn't matter how excellent a movie is, I will fall asleep if it's past 9PM. My favorite movies include The Big Lebowski, Moon, Let Me In, Candy, Requiem for a Dream, and Shutter Island. I typically enjoy movies and novels that require a bit of thought, but also well done "lighter" movies.

One of my college regrets has been allowing myself to slack on reading. With the help of a recent Science Fiction course, I have been getting back into a longtime passion. My favorite books include: Ubik, Siddhartha, Sabriel, Harry Potter, A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Slaughterhouse Five, Anthem, and American Gods.
