About Me

I'm very friendly and open minded person, polite and responsible. I like to meet new people and to discover new cultures:) I appreciate order, good organization... and spontaneous behaviors, meetings, jokes. I'm ready for suprises;)

I would like to learn languages as much as possible. Now I'm speak English, Czech and my native Polish. I hope in the future and thanks to Couchsurfing I'll speak in Spanish, Italian, Russian, German or French and others.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

In 2013-14 I spent whole academic year on Erasmus scholarship in the capital of Czech Republic. It was a glorious time!

No one warned me about the beauty of the city - none of guides, pictures in google images, movies, books - nothing. When I arrived there for the first time, I experienced an aesthetic shock, amazement and immediate infatuation. Image of Prague constantly returns to me in my thoughts and dreams. This is my beloved place and always'll be.

Erasmus addicted and opened me to new experiences, traveling and exploring.
I think the best way to know a country is through its people, their customs and traditions. I'm convinced that Couchsurfing is the best way to know the hidden places that only locals know, what is good to do in the city and know the real country: what the people think and feel about their own country, the others, about politics, cultures etc.

That's why I'm here ;)

Interests

I'm a person who has many interests. I graduated from University of Nicolaus Copernicus in Torun with a bachelor's degree in CULTURE STUDIES and HISTORY and currently I'm finishing MA degree in FILM STUDIES at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow. Those three areas are also my biggest passions (+ travels and football, of course!:). I love to talk, discuss and share my knowledge with others.

I have already a modest experience in filmmaking. I made a few films and took part of many artistic workshops like:

- International "Youth's Meeting with Culture" in DGB Jugenbildungsstätte in Flecken Zechlin, Germany in 2010 and 2012. The result are two short documentaries about our staying there which one of them you can watch:

- I've participated also in workshop in Warsaw Film School where we made short film:

[Unfortunately, there is no English subtitles, but the story tells about a mother who cannot come to terms with the death of her beloved dog. She considered him a member of family, who was even more important than her teenage daughter]

Music, Movies, and Books

MOVIES:

Question for film expert, who I am, about my favourite movies is very difficult;)

It doesn't matter genre or type of film (blockbuster, artistic cinema etc.). There is no division between art and entertainment - counts only a good movie, which makes my feel better, laugh or touch me. I try to keep abreast with American cinema, European, Asian, Australian; silent cinema, classical and present.

But let's try to sort out some of my beloved artists:

- american movies (e.g. Billy Wilder, Alfred Hitchcock, John Ford, Francis Ford Coppola, Sidney Lumet, Martin Scorsese)
- cinema of great masters (e.g. Ingmar Bergman, Federico Fellini, Luchino Visconti, Roman Polanski, Milos Forman)
- Scandinavian cinema (Lukas Moodysson, Anders Thomas Jensen, Thomas Vinterberg)

from the last years: Birdman, Whiplash, Gone Girl, Foxcatcher, Big Short, Ex Machina, Separation, Amour, Wild Tales, Leviathan, Ida.

MUSIC:

- classical rock (Queen, Pink Floyd, Scorpions, Iron Maiden)
- film music (Ennio Morricone, Hans Zimmer, John Williams)
- classical music (Mahler, Beethoven, Bruckner).

One of my great artistic experience was concert of VIII symphony of Gustav Mahler played by Berliner Philharmoniker under by sir Simon Rattle in 2011. That was amazing concert - perfection! :)

BOOKS:

- Fyodor Dostoyevsky (Crime and Punishment)
- Franz Kafka (The Trial)
- Vaclav Havel (essay The Power of the Powerless)
- Oscar Wilde (The Picture of Dorian Gray)
- W.G. Sebald (Austerlitz)
- Thomas Bernhard (Old Masters)
- Ingmar Bergman (Magic Lantern)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

During my stay in Prague at the Erasmus I wrote thesis about former president of Czech Republic - Vaclav Havel.

One of the most important things for me which I've done was made an interview with Petr Pithart - former Prime Minister of Czechoslovakia and a one of closest friend of Havel. The conversation with the witness of many historical events (like Charter 77, the Velvet Revolution, disintegration of Czechoslovakia) and hearing his stories and anecdotes about Havel gave me an impression of contact with interesting history and with a great man.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've a great experience when during the practice I taught history in primary school:)

Kids were fantastic - very smart and inteligent. But sometime, you know, also were little bored and wanted to disturb me:) The ability to control the situation was necesarry. My main task as a teacher was to to get them curious and interested. The most important thing is: be yourself, honest and share with kids my passion.

And I think that's a point - be yourself and share with others my passion, skills, knowledge, language;)

What I Can Share with Hosts

As I mentioned I can share with hosts my culture and traditions.

My idea is a cultural exchange which change the way we see and understand the world, tear down stereotypes and will be have positively impact on our perception of another man, place, event.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Czech Republic, England, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Scotland, Slovakia, Ukraine

Countries I’ve Lived In

Czech Republic, Greece, Poland, Scotland
