About Me

I am the daughter of an American mother and a Liberian father. I was born in South Africa but grew up in the United States. I am passionate about Global Health and plan to work in International Development after completing my studies.

I am also a very creative person. I make art (film, photography, animations etc.) and love to watch films, visit museums, do silly & creative things. To create rather than destroy. I particularly like documentary filmmaking/storytelling: "To tell and hear stories is essential to the species Homo sapiens--second in necessity apparently after nourishment and before love and shelter."

I love to travel and adventure. I seek to practice mindfulness and grow in wisdom and compassion for myself and all living beings :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

In Spring 2018 I went to Philadelphia to visit a friend I had met earlier that winter when travelling abroad. While staying with her, she hosted four different surfers: one from Malaysia, one from Italy, and two from Montreal. It was a truly magical experience that I am so grateful for -- making new friends, hearing about different life experiences and perspectives, drinking lichee in China Town, biking fast through the city, going to a house show, walking through Philadelphia's Museum of Art, going to a protest against gun violence, going to the local cinema...so much happened in just three days!

I would love to continue to share magical, precious moments with others each day of my life, through and beyond the context of Couchsurfing both as a surfer and a host!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Growing up I was a huge metal fan (Iron Maiden, Slayer, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Slipknot, Baroness, Insomnium, etc.) and Punk (Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Ramones, The Misfits, The Adolescents, Municipal Waste, Minor Threat etc.) fan but I've simmered down since lol. I like lo-fi and chill indie music. Frank Ocean and Lana Del Rey were the soundtrack to my 2017. I like Solange and Sampha and would love to hear what music you like too! I've recently been listening to SALE's recent LP I listen to trap music too much lol, but I also really like Childish Gambino, Tyler the Creator, and Vince Staples right now too. Some of my favorite albums are "Pink Moon" by Nick Drake, "Blonde" by Frank Ocean, " "Pure Heroine" by Lorde, "The Velvet Underground & Nico" by you guessed it lol, and Kimya Dawson's "My Cute Feind Princess"

Movies: My favorite movies are the ones I watched before the age of 15 and have thus influcenced me the most: "Children of Heaven", "Lilies of the Feild", "David Copperfeild", "The Grapes of Wrath," "A Clockwork Orange" , "Stranger with a Camera"

Books: I really liked "Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell, "David Copperfield" by Charles Dickens, "1984", "Dreams of My Father" by Barack Obama, and more!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've had two reconstructive knee surgeries when I was 16 and 18. It was really difficult but it made me kinder, wiser, and stronger <3
