ABOUT ME

I (Matt) am currently working in Huddersfield as a Wind Farm Consultant and Developer. I studied Renewable Energy at University in Cornwall where I gained an interest in the environment and green energy.

In the past I have enjoyed hobbies such as kayaking, tennis, football and running - entering competitions for most including a half marathon.

I also volunteered with a charity for 2 years working with children, helping to give them educational opportunities and experiences that they would not normal have. In the future, teaching is definitely a strong prospect.

I spent 5 months after university travelling on my first trip. I spent 2 week in Canada and 8 weeks in the USA on my own, where I met lots of CSers and changed my plans from day to day. I then spent 4 weeks in New Zealand in a campervan with my partner and 7 weeks in Australia travelling up the east coast. The trip was amazing and we are already planning our next - maybe South America this time? I kept a blog for my travels, it can be found here:

Vicky is currently a teaching assistant specialising in one on one, special needs care. She has a degree in Conservation, Biology and Ecology and shares the same love for the environment as me. She has volunteered for several Conservation based projects in Cyprus (Sea Turtles) and Madagascar.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I (Matt) have mainly been surfing so far as part of my travels, but due to the hospitality I've received I absolutely must return this favour, so once I'm back and settled I will be hosting to give back to this community.

Vicky and I have hosted in Huddersfield now and are looking to meet new CSers in the area.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've (Matt) been a host, a surfer and met other CS members along the way!

I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience of hosting a traveller, and am looking forward to being able to offer a coucb again in the near future.

I have surfed through much of North America, whether through this website or through other people I met along the way. I also spent a weekend with a group of CSers who were on a camping trip which was incredible!

Interessen

Matt - I'm very active at the minute, playing Tennis and Badminton whenever I can as well as running and walking regularly. I love to learn, whether its academic, cultural or life lessons. The environment is a big interest as mine, as I have dedicated my education and career to preserving it.

Vicky - Loves the outdoors and environment, enjoys walks in the Peak District, travelling and volunteering/

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

Being a part of CS is a pretty amazing experience, but other than that...

Having a long lost aunt find my dad after being separated for 50 years. Not only was it one aunt that came along, it was another and an uncle, and all the family to go along with them! I'm still meeting family for the first time and it's great!

Climbed to the top of a wind turbine alongside my course, offered an amazing view and experience.

Travelling for 10 weeks on my own on my first trip, seeing sights including Niagara Falls, NYC, Grand Canyon, The Big Sur and Taos Pueblo.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

I want to teach people why they should care about the environment and what can be done to help! I want to learn what people think about green energy and what they do to help the environment (if that is what they are into!). If not, I just want to hear some life stories!
