About Me

Account is inactive for now sorry !

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I believe that if you know your neighbour, you are less likely to hate him/her or find him/her awkward. In the end, we focus on our cultural differences though we have much more in common than we think: we are in a bad mood when we get woken up by a glass of cold water, we say hello and thank you, we tend to feel guilty laughing when someone falls down in the street. So focusing on our differences may make up skip so many cool discussions.

Couchsurfing is also a welcome dose of unexpected things in my life. Sometimes, I feel like some couchsurfers I hosted could have become close friends. So it makes me a bit sad and happy at the time.

Interests

My main activities are writing and cycling, plus many things more or less connected to these. An author that I really admire one told me that to be a good writer, one shall first be a good reader. And I'd also say that one shall live his life. So I'm living mine and I'm sure life experience makes writing better (with stronger characters I'd say). I also volunteer for different cycling charities over Bristol and I hope at some point, the streets will be given back to the pedestrians and cyclists.

I like doing stuff by myself even though I'm a terrible mechanic, experimenting, progressing. "Just do it and see if it works or not".

Whatever the shape of the economy or the political situation, we have only one planet and that's another thing we all have in common. That's what will stay in the end. So even if it's a bit of an obvious thing to say, I like nature.

With many people, I feel like we are talking through a curtain and it's not very enjoyable. But sometimes, it's like in Anomalisa, something happens. Perhaps it happens rather with travellers of the inner journey - the only one where you won't find a couch to surf, genuine people, wherever they stand in this journey, on the neurotic or on the peaceful side.

Music, Movies, and Books

Someone (a well educated man in his 70's) recently told me "I don't read because I don't want to waste time living a 2nd hand life". I genuinely think it's the most absurd thing I've heard in a while.

I read a lot and watch a lot of movies. So it depends on the moment obviously but some of my favourites are Haruki Murakami, Paolo Cognetti, Milena Agus, Yasmina Reza, Alphonse Allais, KO Knsaugaard, Gabriel García Márquez. HG Clouzot, Paolo Sorrentino, Ingmar Bergman, Xavier Dolan, Charlie Kaufman, Pedro Almodóvar. I like personal work and I'm not really into entertainment or scifi.

Music: old fashioned 90's dance, to Nick Cave, Antony, Radiohead, Tchaikovsky, Brel, Einaudi, Barbara, Noir Desir. And Rihanna. No that's a joke.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I climbed l'Alpe d'Huez by bike - I don't know whether it's amazing but I'm proud I've made it without losing a lung.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Couch and wine, and we can even swap books if you want. By the way, I do thank you, you friendly people who actually take time to read profiles and send a lovely request when you feel we can get along. Not blaming the "ctrl+c/ctrl+v" requests but it's appreciable to learn about who you are and what you are doing.

Please, don't travel just to tick boxes, "I've done Machu Picchu" like "I've bought the latest iphone". That's so sad.
