Hi! My name is Mathijs, I’m 21 years old and I’m from Belgium 🇧🇪
I’m a drummer and musician, mainly active in marching percussion and drum set. Music is a big part of my life and has taught me discipline, responsibility, and teamwork.

I’m a calm, friendly, and respectful person. I’m very tidy, independent, and always respect house rules. I enjoy meeting new people, having good conversations, and learning about different cultures, but I’m also perfectly fine keeping things quiet and low-key.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’m traveling to the United States for a music audition camp, which is an important step toward one of my long-term goals. Since I’m a student and traveling on a budget, Couchsurfing helps make this trip possible.

Besides the practical side, I really like the idea of connecting with locals and experiencing a place in a more personal way. I’m grateful for any host willing to help and always try to give something back through respect, good energy, and appreciation.

Music, Movies, and Books

I’m really into rock, alternative, and heavier music, but I also love anything rhythm-driven. As a drummer, I enjoy music with strong grooves, energy, and dynamics. I also listen to cinematic and instrumental music, especially for inspiration and focus.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One amazing thing I’ve done is traveling from Belgium to the United States to pursue my passion for music. Auditioning and performing in high-level marching percussion ensembles pushed me far outside my comfort zone, both musically and personally. It taught me independence, discipline, and the courage to chase big goals — even when it meant crossing an ocean to do so.
