About Me
Hey! My name is Mathis, I’m a 21-year-old traveler from France and a student in geopolitics. I’m currently on a gap year that I plan to spend in Southeast Asia, especially to learn Indonesian :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I I use Couchsurfing to meet locals and have authentic experiences, because I believe it’s one of the best ways to truly discover new cultures.
I’m still quite new to the app, but I’ve already experienced its benefits, for example in Jakarta where I stayed for a while during my field research for my master’s thesis. Thanks to locals, I discovered many things I would never have found on my own (especially the amazing Indonesian food!). Even better, I made friends that I know I’ll keep for a long time.

Music, Movies, and Books
From The Police to Vivaldi, I listen to many different styles of music. But I especially love US rap, with artists like Travis Scott or Juice WRLD.
When it comes to cinema, I really like series such as The Simpsons and movies like Interstellar (I actually think the main soundtrack is almost better than the movie itself btw haha).
As for books, I’m not used to reading a lot yet, but I really want to change that, especially with political philosophy. Please share your recommendations!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've had many extraordinary adventures during my travels, but the one that has left the biggest impression on me is probably the sunrise I saw from the top of Mount Batur in Bali. It was absolutely breathtaking.
What I Can Share with Hosts
As a geopolitics student, I love sharing my knowledge in this field. I also enjoy sharing a bit of French culture, talking about politics, exchanging travel experiences… and of course telling all the fun anecdotes that come with them!
At the same time, I’m a very curious person: I love discovering the culture and history of the places I visit, but also learning directly from the experiences and stories of my hosts.
I’m open to different kinds of moments: we can spend a cozy evening playing board games just as much as going out dancing. I truly enjoy both types of shared experiences.
