About Me
Hi! I'm a journalist and writer based in London in the UK, but I am planning to move to the Balkans in the near future with a friend. I'll be travelling in the region this summer and I'm really excited to meet people, start learning local languages, and try the local food, drink and lifestyle!
Since graduating from Oxford University, I've lived and worked in London, Manchester, the Middle East (Kurdistan) and Greece. I love literature, reading, walking, cooking, cafes and bars. As well as being a journalist, I work in humanitarian and solidarity work with refugees and others, and I'm also a published poet. I'm fluent in Kurdish and looking forward to learning Balkan languages too!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am always happy to host and be hosted and to share time, food, drink, and experiences with new friends. I'm looking forward to meeting locals in the Balkans, learning more about the local language, history and culture, and hopefully finding the city or town where we want to make our new home!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
As a journalist I've been lucky to live and work medium- and long-term in places like Lesvos, Greece; Palestine; and Kurdistan to report on human rights issues there, as well as working directly with refugees and in direct solidarity with people struggling in these places.
What I Can Share with Hosts
- I am an Oxford University English graduate and I'm very happy to help with writing - CV, websites, couchsurfing profiles, job applications - or any other assistance with English you need!
- I can also give Kurdish classes if you're interested in this fascinating and little-studied language
- And I can prove English cooking is much better than its reputation!
