About Me

Hello to all. My name is Matthew. I currently live in Japan, teaching English. I am from Melbourne, Australia and have been in Japan for over 3 years now.

I just love to live my life to the fullest. I got the travel bug when I went on my first ever solo trip around the globe back in 2009. I came late into the hostel scene and never tried couch surfing so I thought all this time later, I'll give it a crack. I may not be famous, but with traveling, I am all about leaving my footprints in this world.

I have done a few adventures in Japan and seriously love this place.

Life is what you make of it. Everywhere you go in life, whatever journey it may be, is a powerful and enriching experience that pays for itself. No one can ever take those times and memories away from you.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on here to meet new people across the globe. There's something about sharing stories of travel that connects people.

I also want to experience the culture not as tourist so to speak, but to be recommended by locals and create some good memories.

Interests

My interests include playing sport, singing karaoke, dancing wherever I can (including when I vacuum around my place lol), going to the beach, hiking, going for coffee, catching up with friends, making people laugh, inspiring people and of course, exploring the world 🌍

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a wide range of music that I listen to. I am a fan of dancing to EDM (I went to Summer Sonic in Tokyo last August which was mixed music and had an awesome time). In terms of bands, Coldplay is my favourite and my favourite artist is Bruno Mars. I've seen both in concert. Amazing.

Books.. I like thriller, fantasy but more in particular self books. Bear Grylls, "A survival guide for life" is really inspirational and I have learnt a lot from it.

Movies.. Well there are many. I love comedy! 😀

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One thing I did that I'm very proud of was climbed to the summit of Mt. Fuji. It's 3,776m tall. It was a tough journey, but you can either be defeated and quit, or just keep going, and never stop until you make it to your destination.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share my stories and would love to learn from others too.

Living in Japan makes me realise how hard people work. I respect the work ethic however, I believe life shouldn't be living for the weekends.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my stories of travel, make my hosts smile and perhaps teach them a thing or two they didn't know before meeting me. Just putting it out there, but I can teach some cool dance moves too!
