About Me

Hello!

I'm a British former fitness writer/nutritionist/personal trainer and have decided to give up my rather comfortable life in Dubai to jump right into the Bay Area start up scene.

Yup, I'm one of those guys with a cliched aspiration to 'change the world' with his start up idea. Sorry!

You can check out some of my writing on my blog theclearytheory.com in case you like that kinda thing.

I'd probably describe myself as a relentless optimist who loves learning, whether it's getting to know new and interesting people or picking up cool skills along the way.

And Food. Big foodie.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm going to be honest, it's a little selfish.

I'm moving half way across the world to try and realize a dream and unfortunately, I don't know anybody.

I'd love to make some awesome friends who can show me their way of life and introduce me into their culture. What's a better way to get to explore a new city/area than getting to know the people?

I kinda feel like the new kid at school. except my parents are nowhere to be seen :)

Show me around? Just to clarify, I'm NOT looking for a place where I can just dump by bags and crash on the couch. I'm a talker, I'd love to get to know you and hang out if you'll have me.

Interests

I'll try not to take up too much of your time here:

I'm endlessly fascinated by all things:
- Start ups/ technology
- foreign food
- cooking
- science and engineering
- fitness/sports, especially boxing
-Trying new outdoor sports (something I'd like to do more of
-philosophy (especially, stoicism)
- language learning (french and spanish)
- learning to play the electric guitar
- can play drums

Don't worry, I won't be bringing any instruments with me

Music, Movies, and Books

Music, hard to say, I enjoy anything if I'm in the mood for it.

Originally a huge classic rock fan. Eagles, AC/DC, GnR etc.
I love a bit of Public Enemy or Mozart, depends on what I'm working on.
Recently gotten more into the glitch mob.

Movies? I love movies that make me think, Prestige, Memento etc. Big Dicaprio fan too. Oh and superheroes, love'em.

I read a ton, it's pretty insane, a couple of books per week, though I'll drop it for a good conversation of course. Primarily non-fiction, business, psychology, philosophy. Also love Game of Thrones, helps me get to sleep, oddly.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Worked with the the world's youngest ruling monarch (King Oyo of Uganda) over 6 months to get him in shape for a big public appearance and an interview with Oprah.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can cook,

I tell jokes, sometimes.

I can also do those cool shadow puppet things.

If you're into that kinda thing.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can promise you that several people have told me that if they were stuck on a desert island after being ship-wrecked and could be stuck with one person?

They'd pick me.

Anyway, I'm not sure what that means exactly.

Though I hope that's because I'm pretty good fun and can help them escape/survive.

Not because they can eat my flesh with minimal effort.

Who knows.
