About Me

About US...
We are a motivated, energetic young couple who have just set out to travel the world!
We are both fun loving, social people who love a challenge and are always up for a laugh. A major part of our journey is to meet new people. We had heard that couch surfing would be a great way to do that.

We we aren't travelling, we are hard working professionals who love sport and fitness. Pariz has just completed her PhD in corporate crime detection (nerd alert!) while working full time. My background is in the mining industry. After starting as a cleanskin at the coal face I studied and increased my skill set to include OHS and project management.

But we don't just work hard, we play hard too!
We are part of The Meat Trays, a social sporting group from home who take part in charity sporting activities and regular catch-ups. We love basketball, as well as hiking, obstacle course races, cycling, tennis and volleyball, but will give anything a go! I also play in a couple of bands (predominately guitar), both electric and acoustic, and love watching and supporting live music.

Although we love being active, nothing beats turning your phone off for the day, getting your favourite snacks and settling in with a good movie, Netflix or your favourite game. Ahhhhhh *sigh*

...Enough about us, we look forward to meeting you!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My girlfriend and I are travelling around the world for 12 months. She has just finished her PhD in law and I was ready for an extended break from work. We had heard great things about couch surfing from our friends and thought it would be an excellent way to meet great people on our journey!

Music, Movies, and Books

Love and appreciate most music (blues, soul, rnb, alternative, prog-rock, acoustic, classical...)
Love a good thriller, Sci-fi or fantasy flick. Too many great ones to mention here!
I'll read anything that is a good read, but I am a sucker for interesting autobiographies and based on true events.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have younger twin brothers who are amazing musicians. They lived and toured in Japan for about 18 months previously. It has always been my dream to play and tour in Japan. I would have an opportunity to make my dream a reality. My brothers had recently finished recording an album and we're ready to hit Japan. As we all played guitar, I felt that may I could bring something different to the table... I asked that if I were to purchase a keytar and learn the set list before the tour, could I be part of the tour... They were excited by the prospect of having the keytar on stage and threw down the challenge. So I bought a keytar and spent the next 3 months practicing a brand new instrument to be ready for the tour (previous experience with guitar obviously helped). After 3 months of practice and rehearsals, I was ready. We set off to Japan and played a 2 week tour playing shows in Tokyo, Kyoto and Otsu. It literally was a dream come true. A life changing experience. I love a good challenge, and this was so rewarding. Travelling to one of my favourite places in the world to entertain a foreign audience, playing my brothers original music, doing it on a hard budget with 4 other guys was legendary. I know have a new skill, unforgettable memories and friendships and a story that shows if you work hard enough, you can make almost anything happen!

Special mentions to:
- Completing the 4 day Inca trail with Pariz
- Volunteering at school for underprivileged children in Medellín
