About Me

Hi! My name is Matt Luu. I am a Canadian born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I am half Filipino and half Chinese-Vietnamese. I love travelling and experiencing other cultures. English is the only language I speak fluently however, I want to learn the languages which my parents speak which are Tagalog (Mom), Cantonese, Vietnamese, and Mandarin (Dad) - and in addition i want to learn Spanish and French. One of my main goals in life is to reconnect with my Chinese and Filipino roots by learning about the real culture by spending more time in the motherland(s). I also want to visit many other countries.

If I have to brag a bit in this About Me section, I guess I'm a pretty interesting guy who has some accomplishments aha

I have been a b-boy/breakdancer since 2014. I am obssessed with hip-hop culture - and I like to connect with local b-boys/b-girls from all round the globe by meeting them at competitions or at a practice session. I also make hip-hop music and love collecting vinyl records (which I use for sampling).

I own a little side business for fun back home - digging for secondhand vintage Polo, Tommy,Adidas, and Nike , etc at thrift stores and used clothes factories, and then reselling them, sometimes even at breakdancing events. Other than the Greater Toronto Area, I've been blessed enough to thrift all over the world in cities such as Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines - places in which I've found some of my favourite pieces.

In 2013 I represented in Canada's national team for dragon boating at an International event in Hungary (won 3 gold medals)

Ran a half marathon when in 2011 when I was 17 (never again)

Right now I live in Shenzhen.

Bucketlist (adding more in the future):

- explore rural China and just more cities in general (the country is so damn beautifully big and diverse)

- Master Mandarin and Cantonese within 5 years

- hit up vietnam for a bboy competition

-

- marry a Chinese girl and raise a family in the motherland

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I taught a giant group of around 100 youth at an English camp. I showed them how to write their own raps, and got them to perform them in front of their parents.

Teach, Learn, Share

*Speaking English (taught a giant group of teenagers English with the use of Hip-Hop by making them write their own raps and perform in front of their parents) (lived with a Chinese family for a month in Shenzhen - taught the kids English)

*Beatmaking (taught a few workshops to youth - how to sample, chop, and compose a hip-hop beat)
