About Me

I have recently graduated from the University of Bath in England and embarking on a 3 month journey around the United States with my university friend (https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/simon-batten). I'm a fairly outgoing chap who loves the outdoors and meeting new people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Travelling is all about meeting new people, and there's no better than those willing to invite you into their home. I love hearing about the adventures of others and sharing my own. I'm new to this so looking to give a good impression.

Interests

I like playing/watching sports and keeping fit. I play for a cricket team during the summer and also enjoy skiing, surfing, running and cycling.

Outside of sport I like travelling a lot. I have been on a couple of road trips around Europe; I aim to go interrailing at some point and possibly attempt the Mongol rally in the not too distant future.

Music, Movies, and Books

My music tastes change more than the British weather, but on the whole I enjoy most genres. Scandinavia seems to be producing some good artists at the moment; Avicii, Kygo and the like.

I don't watch too many films, but I'm partial to something with decent action in it. I'm sure you could also twist my arm to watch the occasional RomCom.

I wish I had more time to read. Quietly perusing through my Kindle you would find yourself amongst Douglas Adams, Stephen King and Terry Prachett to name but a few.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Watching the sunrise and set over the snow topped ridge of the Alps must have to be up there with the most enjoyable experiences I've ever had. Doesn't sound like much, but it was breathtaking at the time.

Teach, Learn, Share

At the ripe old age of 23, I wouldn't consider myself well versed in the ways of the world to ever feel I'd be a teacher of any substance; but I am something of a computer whizz, and I've spent many a summer fixing cars and bikes too.

In travelling and meeting new people I aim to learn a great many things, most will be completely unexpected I'm sure. If I've learnt one thing in my life it's that, if an opportunity presents itself, take it, as it's easier to live with sins of commission rather than omission.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Although I do say so myself, I'm a cheerful outgoing fellow for someone from the UK, who prides himself on his satirical British wit. I hope to be of good company wherever I go and with whomever I stay with. For whatever length of time, I'm confident that good times shall be had by all.
