À propos de moi

I'm just back to the South Coast of England (near Brighton) after spending the last 10 years working in Osaka for the British Council as an English teacher. I also spent 3 years living in New Orleans, where I was a post grad in philosophy at Tulane University, until hurricane Katrina caused me to reassess. I was in a plane on my way back when the hurricane hit, so seriously dodged a bullet there. I'd say I'm a pretty easy going sort; happiest when my life is free of stress and I can focus on the things in enjoy: windsurfing, keeping fit, watching documentaries and reading. I have a particular soft spot for animals and hate to see them mistreated. If I see a worm or snail in trouble on the pavement I will rescue it!

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

The truth is that my seven year relationship recently came to an abrupt end and I decided to take a holiday and I thought Couchsurfing seemed like a good way to have a richer experience doing so. Also, my brother used the site years ago when he travelled in The States and he highly recommended it. I also think it'd be cool to host the right person or people should they wish to visit my neck of the woods. Some of the most enduring and meaningful relationships of my life have resulted from chance encounters and I think these are less likely when one is holed up in a hotel room.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

I don't know that I've done anything that would qualify as "amazing" but I am proud of the time I spent teaching philosophy at Tualne University in New Orleans. I had never lectured before and I was somewhat apprehensive about the class of 50 or so students I had to teach. But what an incredible experience it was; I surprised myself at how much I enjoyed the experience.

I'm also think getting back to shore after my mast snapped while windsurfing in stormy weather was up there in terms of my impressive feats.

Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes

I'm always interested to hear how other people's lives have unfolded, the way unforeseen events can bear on the paths we take, both for better and worse, and so I would humbly say that I would be happy to share my own story.
