Overview
About Me
I am a bit shy but I like meeting new people and hearing their stories. I am hoping that getting involved with this community will help push me out of my comfort zone so I can connect with travelers coming to San Francisco and others when I travel domestically and internationally.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Like most people here, I have a wanderlust and try to get to different parts of the country and the world whenever I can. I learned a long time ago that my favorite part of traveling is the people. Meeting strangers or getting to know old friends in a new context are some of the most fulfilling experiences I can imagine. Couchsurfing enables those experiences by creating a strong, generous, and kind international community.
I also have some space at my apartment in SF. While I rarely have time to give tours of the city I am happy to share a place to sleep for any other travelers coming to the bay area.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: I mostly listen to indie rock sometimes with a folk flare other times with a punk rock bent. The Hold Steady, The Mountain Goats, and The Replacements are among my favorites. But I am not so narrowly focused. I also enjoy jazz, hip hop, EDM, country, classical, and everything in between. I am always delighted to be introduced to new music.
Movies: I am hardly a film buff but I do like critical analysis and film theory. I really love seeing movies in the theater. My favorite film I have seen recently was The Florida Project.
Books: David Foster Wallace, George Saunders, Tom Stoppard
Teach, Learn, Share
I am a math and drama teacher by trade. I love to share knowledge with people if I can. One fond memory I have was staying in a hostel in New Orleans while it poured rain. And a group of us took turns teaching lessons to others. I explained the derivation of the quadratic formula on the top of box of takeout to the great appreciation of a group of artists who had mostly forgotten what they had learned in Algebra I. I then proceeded to learn the basics of portraiture, a skill which I still do not have but a lesson I appreciated immensely.
