About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To dream the impossible dream. To fight the unbeatable foe. To bear with unbearable sorrow. To run where the brave dare not go.

ABOUT ME

My neighborhood Starbucks is the original Starbucks.

PHILOSOPHY

I really want to write something simple like 'love' or 'Golden Rule' or 'social liberal, fiscal conservative' here, but such things would be way too simplistic.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Generally, I host tourists who are visiting for a brief time or people attending conferences in town. I am not interested in hosting people who are temporarily homeless or in town for internships, fellowships, or short-term jobs.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted a few and it's gone well so far. Will you be my next lucky guest? I also have some experience surfing in Southeast Asia, the Balkans, East Africa, and across the U.S.

Red markers are whence my past surfers hail.
Green markers are places where I have surfed.

Interests

I have a number of hobbies that ebb and flow. I like experimenting with new recipes, so if you'd like to show me one of your culture's dishes, I'll return the favor and find you the best food from Pike Place Market! Being a former anthropology major, I love in depth study of human culture.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm not really a big film person. I enjoy going out to see a movie from time to time, though. In any case, a group of my friends from high school have a "bad movie club", where we watch old independent films with stupid plots and make fun of them. That's about as close to a film fan as I get.

I was a clarinetist through college, so I learned to enjoy classical music. Truth be told, I listen to podcasts or sports radio when in the car.

As far as books go, my absolute favorite book is Blindness by the late Jose Saramago. I like most of Saramago's stories, actually: I'm a fan of his style and themes.

During a recent trip, I read Life of Pi and the Kite Runner. But I read a pretty solid mix of non-fiction as well.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once found a penny on the ground in a parking lot.
