About Me

Ciao everyone! I'm Matteo, a photographer and passionate world traveler. I was born in Savona, a charming seaside town on the Italian Riviera. From a young age, I’ve been drawn to capturing the beauty of different cultures through my camera lens. After graduating in Art, my curiosity led me to explore life down under. I moved to Australia, then settled in New Zealand, where I’ve spent the last eight years.

I’m an easygoing, open-minded person who loves meeting new people and sharing stories. I’m always up for a chat, a laugh, or cooking up a delicious pasta dish. 😊

My work spans across the film industry, where I handle logistics and production, and my passion for photography. I love to capture authentic moments and the beauty in everyday life, especially through portraits. Looking forward to meeting fellow travelers and locals alike, and sharing some great experiences together!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Hi there!
I’m Matteo, a photographer and traveler from Italy. Early next year, I’ll be embarking on a special journey across Japan, and I’d love to share my story with you. My plan is to explore the country from Fukuoka all the way to Sapporo, capturing the essence of Japan through its people and its ramen culture.

During my travels, I’ll be visiting not only bustling cities but also smaller, off-the-beaten-path towns. My goal is to create a photography exhibition and a book that celebrates the everyday life of Japan—showcasing the faces, places, and, of course, the ramen shops that make each region unique.

I’m an easygoing, open-minded person, and I love connecting with locals and fellow travelers. I’m hoping to find kind hosts who can share their culture and stories with me. In return, I’d be happy to cook a nice Italian meal, exchange travel tales, or even offer a mini portrait session. 😊

Here’s a rough itinerary of my trip:

January
1st week: Fukuoka( 3-6) ➡️ Kagoshima(6-8)➡️ Kumamoto(8 - 10) ➡️ Hiroshima (11- 14)
2nd week: Osaka (14 -19) ➡️ Kyoto (19-22)
3rd week: Nagoya(22 -24) ➡️ Nagano(24- 27) Joetsu ➡️ (27-28)
4th week: Niigata(28-29) ➡️ Kitakata (29-31)

February
1st week: Yamagata (31 -2) ➡️ Sendai (2-3)
2nd week: Aomori (3- 5) ➡️ Hakodate (5 -7)
3rd week: Exploring around Sapporo and Asahikawa (8 - 19)

I’m looking forward to connecting with new people, learning more about the culture, and hopefully sharing some memorable experiences together. Thank you for considering my request, and I hope to see you on the road!

Music, Movies, and Books

’m a big fan of music, with a love for jazz, old school hip hop, rock, and metal. If there is a jazz night in your town let's go and check it out!
When it comes to movies, I’m open to anything as long as it’s well-made. Whether it’s a thought-provoking drama, a thrilling action flick, or an offbeat indie film, I’m in!
Books are a big part of my life, too. I especially enjoy novels, travel stories, and biographies that take me on new journeys. The last book I read and loved was Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami—such a fascinating and surreal adventure.
