ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Matthew. I'm a 32-year-old from New Zealand. I'm travelling Latin America for the second time, and am looking to meet local people and learn the culture/language of every place I visit. My Spanish is a little rusty and underdeveloped, but I can have some basic conversation and appreciate being taught new words and phrases. My goal is fluency.

I love music, food, books, exercise (especially martial arts), theories about life, and any new kind of adventure. I play a little guitar and drums, and in my spare time I am usually either reading or writing or on the computer. I'm quite a relaxed person, and I love good, interesting conversation about life.

I left New Zealand to find adventure, to grow and keep learning. I took my work with me, editing people's books on my computer and writing my own, so wifi is greatly appreciated if you have some to share.
Any time you can host me is time that is appreciated, and I'd be happy to do the same if you ever come to New Zealand.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I did some couchsurfing last time I was in Latin America, through Argentina, Uruguay, Belize, and some other places. We used to host cyclists from the WarmShowers app in Auckland at my flat. I've done a decent amount of backpacking, and am respectful to other people's space and property. If you host me I'd be very grateful, and of course I will be considerate to your home and lifestyle. En 2019/2020 estaba viajando por Latinoamerica. Yo usé Couchsurfing en Argentina, Uruguai, Belize, y otras lugares. Yo estaba mochilerando, pero este vez no tengo planes, solo trabajar y viajar. Couchsurfing para mi es muy bien para conocer la gente y lugares especificos. Gracias :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've had a lot of interesting jobs and experiences, including firefighting, building submarines, small-time acting in movies and TV shows, writing books... I've spent about 17 months backpacking Asia, 19 months backpacking Latin America, have travelled my home country in a van, I have my black belt in karate, I'm also a qualified marketer.

I want to learn other languages, and don't mind teaching people English in return. I also like to share stories and experiences.

I have thousands of stories from my travels, I love sharing about the books I'm writing, I love intellectual conversation and interesting facts, I'm also happy to help clean or cook. If hosts are writing their own books or starting a business, I can also share my professional experience and tips.
