About Me

hey'all: I'm a Georgian-Texan, (middle child) triplet, occasional hitchhiker / traveler and lazy prose poet, but more frequent eater of okra and reader of Rumi, casual moon-gazer, low-key vegan, and such. Just took my undergrad degree from a petite experimental college on the cozy mountainy (and touristy) island of Mount Desert in downeast Maine, where I've been the last four yrs., studying climate change policy and global environmental politics, doing some veggie farming, student organizing, + seasonal restaurant work on the side. Have recently moved to New Orleans from the Austin area to start work as a regional organizer with an NGO in southern Louisiana.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

'Cause I appreciate the sharing economy! Also always down to meet rad new folks when I'm traveling and have had only super pleasant experiences with Couchsurfing so far, when I've done a little roaming through western Europe and the southern U.S. I'm really indebted to all of the insanely sweet people who've hosted me in the past and plan on returning the favor as soon as I'm able to share some space!

Music, Movies, and Books

Lately: some Tropicália, some bluegrass, jazz rap and hip hop, lots of Perotá Chingó and Y La Bamba, psychedelic / freak folk (Incredible String Band, Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom); real crackly early Delta blues recordings (esp. Son House, Leadbelly, Mississippi John Hurt), love Shakey Graves, Alabama Shakes, early Leonard Cohen. Currently trying to read "Braiding Sweetgrass" (would def. recommend), Salman Rushdie's "Midnight's Children," García Márquez's "Cien Años de Soledad," and a book on theology all at once! Film-wise, I like most things Wes Anderson.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spent a February in a small pueblo near Valladolid in Yucatán, Mex., collecting oral testimonies from subsistence farmers (milperos) experiencing the impacts of climate change, helped my host-family harvest maize, squash, lentils, jícama... Processed the experience into a small book of drawings and poems.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Presence! Also happy to bring along some good food and/or cook you a meal, swap stories, help with chores around your place, give you little poems scrawled on scraps of paper
