I'd much rather get to know a host and get a glimpse of his/her life and what they understand than be a wayfarer of hostels fretting the cost and space of finding a bed in a place I'm beginning to explore. It's nice to be with a local with reference and awareness in the place they live in to show me how things work instead of reading a travel guide of a Location; or, I'll take people over paper.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I recently walked the Camino Santiago, and one day while I was walking, our group stopped in a town called Relligios to rest for the day. We went to this bar called the Elvis Bar and a few drinks in, I helped facilitate a spontaneous drum line (it was on the bar) for a consecutive hour to Johnny Cash, Adele, and Elvis Presley songs, including the bartender/owner, some friends of mine, and folks I didn't know. Good times!
