About Me

I am about to graduate from the University of Western Ontario with degrees in Mechatronic (robotic) engineering and business. I love to play sports and I probably couldn't survive without being active. I have never been to a continent outside of North America so I am looking forward to seeing what the rest of the world has to offer.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I will be travelling to Europe, Africa, Southeast Asia, Australia and South America in the summer of 2016. I want to meet interesting local people everywhere I go...and saving a little bit of money along the way never hurt anyone. I will be travelling with my good friend Nick the entire time and we are looking forward to all the adventures and challenges that we will face. In my profile picture I am the one on the right and Nick is the one on the left.

This will be my last summer off before I start working full time, so I plan on taking full advantage of the freedom and explore as much as I can.

Interests

I'm a bit of an odd ball I guess...I'm an engineer by education but also love anything to do with sports. I played basketball, football, soccer and volleyball growing up. It might shock you to realize that I am a Canadian but I don't play hockey. I also love anything to do with technology, especially in the drone (quadcopter) space.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hopefully after this summer, a trip around the world will be the most amazing thing I've ever done.

Teach, Learn, Share

Disclaimer: we are interpretting this question as something you can teach, something you want to learn and something you can share.

Matthew: Teach - All 4,000,000 steps involved in building your own drone. Learn - I want to learn what it takes to run my own business. Share - Depends how many cookies I can fit in my backpack.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I will hopefully have some pretty cool stories to tell about all the countries I am going to. I will be going to 20+ countries in 3 months...so I should have at least a couple cool stories to tell.

I am responsible guy and will be very appreciative of each host that I have. No need to worry about me making a mess, I am a neat freak.

I would love to get to know local people in every country I visit and would love if my hosts could tag along on some of the adventures I have planned for the summer.

I would also be more than willing to take our hosts out to dinner or buy you a bottle of your favourite wine.
