About Me

Greetings! 你好! Hej!
Born and bred in Melbourne; studying a Bachelor of Science (Geology and Chemistry) and Law in Canberra.
Owing to my training in geology, I'm super interested in exploring the great outdoors in pursuit of the world's most surreal, mesmerising and altogether celestial locations. My pursuit in geology is part of an overall career scheme to continuously find excuses to see the world - whilst, of course, also improving it in some way.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've found that appreciation of culture is mostly gained through interaction with people: locals, or through the discussion of ideas of the locale with fellow travellers. It imports a humanistic element to the location, transforming a mere spectacle into something of meaning. Many times this has been through serendipitous interactions in hostels, striking up conversation with strangers, or through involvement in the same project or program. I hope that Couchsurfing will increase the likelihood of these valuable interactions whilst also, practically, aiding in the search for a place to rest.

Interests

Interested in everything under the sun, guided by an overall fascination with the world around - nature, society, humans, and the meaning of it all. In my spare time and when not trawling through the Internet, I play cello, run around the Canberran countryside, and generally like to keep myself 'busy' with life and the like.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Romantic-era classical music (Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Mahler, Dvořák and the rest of the lot); bits and bobs of jazz; Nujabes. Generally anything which induces the feels.

Movies and television: Lord of the Rings, an assortment of anime, 90s romantic comedies, the occasional independent movie.

Books: The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay; Why Nations Fail; To Kill a Mockingbird.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Ran as part of a team of four in a 100 km rogaining race for my residential college at ANU in 2014 and 2015, winning both times. Race involved being blindfolded and driven in a bus to some random location in outback Australia, then having to use a map and compass to determine a race route to the 'End Point'.

Teach, Learn, Share

What's really amazing is that anything - words, images, speech, videos of friends, family - can all be transmitted into different wavelengths in an instant and communicated to the other side of the world.
Also interesting to note that when flying continuously from the Kamchatka Peninsula to Moscow, the sun will stay in the same position in the sky for the duration of the entire flight.
Also interesting to note the importance of a political system for a person's existence: one slight slip and society collapses and with this, people's humanity.
Also interesting to note how certain mineral deposits are formed from a certain mix of events which geologists then discover for humans to then use: concentrations of gold and copper because of a certain volcanic system; a meteorite falling into a certain location; a bunch of lava erupted in a single area, etc.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Interesting discussion (I hope); tips and tricks for photography; decent cooking skills; an interesting musical playlist; decent photography editing skills; insights into legal theory, international law and Australian law; insights into the geology of the world and volcanoes; ideas for aid and development; companionship for long hikes incorporating interesting geology; musical fanfare with either a karaoke machine, a cello, or a Disney/90s/00s playlist.
