Chi sono

People usually describe me as chilled out. I like to do things spontaneously so often don't have many plans when I turn up in a city, with just a broad idea of what I want to do, so am usually open to suggestions! I like to get to know my host by doing things that they suggest and not just following my own plans.

I think I can usually see the positive side in experiences better than most people, so tend to not have very high standards for sleeping arrangements or comfort in general, and I really just want a piece of floor and a friendly host.

Perché sono iscritto su Couchsurfing

This is a great way of meeting local people who are nearly always willing to help me to find my way around an unfamiliar city, by suggesting good destinations or even taking me out to some of their favourite places. Of course a free place to sleep is great but it's more about the people you meet. Living with someone who speaks another language is also a great way to practice it, and I'm currently realising that I have a fairly intense passion for learning, teaching and discussing languages.

Interessi

I love music festivals and have fortunately found ways to work at them during the British summer. I think it's a mixture of the great people, the outdoors and the music that really draws me to them. Everyone is so open and friendly while they're dancing to loud music in a muddy field. I think people act similarly when they travel. Everything about language fascinates me. Learning to actually speak a language is great, but learning about the intricacies of the different grammatical structures, cultural influences and history is super-interesting too. I play the drums in my free time, and I'd love to learn some hand-drumming. I also really like maths, which I didn't really realise while I was studying, but I now miss it quite a lot - I love nerding out about the stuff I studied but it's rare to find people who care enough to listen!

Musica, film e libri

My musical tastes are pretty eclectic, from house and techno to salsa and funk, as long as I can dance to it then I'll like it! I keep a list of all the good music that I hear while I'm away so that I can download it all when I get home - hosts/guests who can add songs to the list would be perfect (or even just people who have a song they really like - send me a message)!

I haven't watched anywhere near as many movies as I should have, but again my tastes are pretty broad, and I could enjoy any type of film if I was in the right mood for it. 'This is England' is poignant and emotive, 'Pan's Labyrinth' is visually stunning and creative, and 'Love Actually' is unashamedly feel good and cheesy, but I've always enjoyed watching it.

Again, I would like to read a lot more than I have. I read a really good book called 'The Shock of The Fall' which is essentially about mental health problems, which is definitely something that needs more public attention. 'Life of Pi' was also a good read. I find lot of proper classical literature quite draining to read, and prefer the less formal tone of more modern stuff.

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

A six month trip in South America when I went to Brazil, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador. My first big travelling experience and I learned an amazing amount about the world.

Insegna, impara, condividi

I love learning about most things - as I've said further up, languages, music, dance, linguistics... But pretty much anything you're willing to teach me! As for teaching, I can teach English, of course, and try to impart any knowledge that I might have about any topic that we discuss. It seems a bit silly to list things that a person can teach when their experiences are so broad - everyone has so much good stuff to share!

Cosa posso offrire ai padroni di casa

Apart from the things already mentioned, I find cooking very relaxing and therapeutic and usually cook something when I'm hosted. Washing dishes is pretty fun too if you have some nice music to listen to.
