About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Traveling and exploring before putting down roots.

ABOUT ME

These are never easy. I'm pretty active and outgoing. I can be loud and opinionated, but that only comes out after I get to know people.

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy is to experience as much as I can while I'm here. I try to do right by myself and others, hear and tell good stories and laugh as much as I can. Eating good food, and drinking good drink always helps too!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now I'm only traveling, so I can't put people up, but once I'm stable in February I will definitely be willing to put up a couch to someone in need of a bed and a shower.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None, this is all new to me. I used to only use Hostels, but this seems like a way better gig.

I'm currently heading across Europe on a Eurail adventure. Hope to meet some of you along the way. I'm traveling with my partner Angela Teske. She's a little bit cooler than me. ;)

Interests

I enjoy a lot of events, groups and clubs. I like skateboarding, snowboarding, and I played Rugby for 10 years. I like hiking and exploring cities. I'm also pretty chill. I'm a bit of a movie/tv geek. I listen a lot of music, and write. I play piano and I've been in a few bands. I love jamming.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: My personal favorites are mostly nostalgic: Star Wars, Transformers (old), Ninja Turtles, Jim Henson movies (Labyrinth, Dark Crystal) Princess Bride, Neverending Story. I like a lot of horror films and movies by directors like Quentin Tarrentino and Robert Rodriguez. I like a lot of movies though. I like a fair bit of anime too. Akira is my favorite. I like a lot of tv too, especially South Park, Simpsons, Sopranos, Six Feet Under, the Office, Monty Python and the Might Boosh to name a few.

Music: I'm mostly a metal head. I like pretty much every genre of metal, including the extreme stuff. But I'm not restricted to it. My first favorite band was Smashing Pumpkins and Tool. I like a lot of the 90s alternative stuff. I listen to a lot of classical music and soundtracks as well. I also like some more mellow stuff recently like MGMT, Foster the People and New Pornographers. Lately I've been really interested in traditional Japanese music (prompted by the Akira soundtrack).

Books: After doing my Masters I mostly wanted to read easy fun stuff. I love Terry Pratchett and science fiction like Dune. I like a lot of the classics too, like Wuthering Heights, or A Room with a View. I often don't like books that wear their philosophy on their sleeve.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I saw an ice berg crack, it made a sound louder than thunder of the coast of Newfoundland. I saw a Manna Ray take out a Rainbow fish in Hawaii. I saw the sunset from a temple that was built into a mountain in Korea. I don't know, there's a lot more...

Teach, Learn, Share

I like meeting people who are from somewhere that I've never been, and never really been exposed to. I'll give you an anecdote. I met a man in a hostel once from Israel. I asked him what it was really like there. I had just left Canada for the first time, and I told him that I was sure I didn't get an accurate picture from the news. He was so grateful that I didn't start on a diatribe of how much I knew, just because I watched CNN, like many people had. He told me a lot that amazed me. He made the complexity of the situation very clear. We met in passing but ended up talking for hours. I want to meet more people like him.
