CURRENT MISSION
I can tell how uncomfortable a person is by hugging them for 11 minutes.
ABOUT ME
IG: mgockwell
My name is Matthew and I am product manager for an engineering firm. I have been truly blessed with my job and the flexible hours and travel that come with the territory. I have been hosting and surfing for 5 years now and absolutely love it!
My flat is located in the middle of downtown, so many of the attractions are within walking distance. I am also relatively new to Atlanta, so I tend to get just as excited as you when exploring. :)
I'm obviously interested in traveling, but actually traveling. I'm not going to waste my time at a resort. If you don't come back with a disease(from a bug or something) or injury, you did something wrong...you get the picture, haha. I love roadtrips! Build a soundtrack, get in your car and eat only 7-11 taquitos and strawberry mentos.
I know CS is getting more popular, but that doesn't mean the theory behind it has to die away. This is not freehotels.com, it's a place where all barriers the World puts up are torn down. I want to laugh, explore, eat, party, and get arrested with my surfers! It's simple, respect CS for what it is and we'll have an amazing time trying the Atlanta vibe!
I love language barriers! If you're not fluent in English, don't worry about it. It's fun to be able to teach someone English and learn their language in return.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Life is about networking and nobody is worthless. There's always something you know that I want to learn, and I'm working on knowing everything. :)
I absolutely enjoy surrounding myself with couchsurfers! I would pick a foreign backpacker over my a local American any day. I promise to make your stay in Denver the best I can offer.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've hosted numerous people in Orlando, Denver & Atlanta and surfed all around Europe. When I have time, I'll catch a couchsurfing group.
The only bad experiences I get from CS is watching my surfers leave! It always sucks to see you all go!
Interests
Since graduating from UCF, I've found myself in as a product manager for the power energy sector. I'm currently designing a new smartphone interface that can be widely adopting by utilities all over the world. It allows customers to better understand their consumption habits and environmental footprint as well as connect them with the utility during normal and emergency circumstances... and there's a cool game :)
I want to learn another language, possibly German or French... any thoughts?

Music, Movies, and Books
I love The Fifth Element! and all types of music besides country. I read business and how-to books more than anything... working on getting that edge in the business world.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I was a firefighter for almost 6 years, so I've seen some amazing things.
I went to Europe for a month in the summer of 2011 and had the time of my life! I wish I could have seen more of the culture and not just the buildings, but that just leaves room for a second visit.
Teach, Learn, Share
I have copious amounts of knowledge in website design, layout, search engine optimization, etc. I know how to ski well enough to give people a good laugh.
