About Me
CURRENT MISSION
be present, be receptive, be helpful, be happy, be.
ABOUT ME
**Working on new photos sans cap and shades. Progress hindered by technical difficulties. Thanks for understanding!**
I never forget a face or an act of kindness. If you do need a place to stay, I am happy to ask around, for now, and when I am finally able to host surfers myself, my door will always be open.
I write, record, and perform music, usually on the bass, in various settings in and around New York City. Music is my life and my passion. I play the Fender bass, Upright bass, ukelele, mandolin, piano, and percussion. One of my favorite things about traveling is to experience the way different cultures enjoy art and music and incorporate it into their daily lives. This informs me as an artist, and as a human being.
I have been traveling since the new year, mostly in India, so less bass playing, but much more mandolin! I have also been writing and have accumulated a decent catalogue of poems.
PHILOSOPHY
Live in the present. Observe the inner workings of the mind. Breath. Be compassionate. Give more than receive.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I am of the opinion that traveling is about relationships, rather than sights. I enjoy museums and monuments, but I think the interpersonal cultural exchange is the best part.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
In Brazil I stayed with a few good friends who showed me the real Brazil. Real off the grid lagoons where windsurfers play. In the evenings we went to a watering hole where an hours long jam session transformed into a roda de capoeira. ROOTS!
That was my first experience and I've had a few since then, and they've all been eye opening and beautiful experiences. Looking forward to many more!
Interests
a short list of interests that are not specifically music (really, anything can be brought back to a conversation about music) would look as follows: rock climbing, skydiving, water skiing, skiing, hiking (noticing a trend here?) yoga, capoeira, metaphysical discourse, intense rollicking laughing fits, random acts of kindness, pets, vegetarian food, political theater...

Music, Movies, and Books
I love a good oldschool samurai movie (i.e. Lone Wolf and Cub) or Bruce Lee. I'm also a fan of the comedies. Musically, nothing is off limits! just to name a few: Doc Watson, Flat and Scrugs, Jorge Ben, Chico Buarque, Jobim, Horace Silver, Charlie Mingus, Jaco, Booker T and the MG's, The Gladiators, The Skatalites, Reggie Miller, Ali Akhbar Khan, Ravi Shankar, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Olatunji, Fela Kuti, Denilo Perez, Brian Blade, Paramore, Michael Jackson, Scriobin, Rimsky-Korsakov, Dvorak, Hiatus Kayote, etc. ad inf.
BOOKS- (authors) Hunter S. Thompson, Joseph Campbell, Carl Jung, Bukowski, Hemmingway. I don't have the deepest library but I love a good book
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Staring into the void in the dead of the night, surrounded by nothing but the desert and absolute silence.
Jumped from a plane and soared towards the setting sun embroidered horizon.
Teach, Learn, Share
I teach yoga at home, and I'm more than happy to guide a practice for anybody interested in learning how their body and mind moves.
I'm happy to share anything at all from my knowledge and experience in music, languages (spanish and portuguese), or other miscellaneous trivial knowledge (of which I am a pro. If there is a trivia game going on anywhere, you definitely want me on your side.)
