About Me

Hey !
It's always a bit awkward to talk about myself, but I'll give it a shot, list some random part of my life and give a quick presentation : my name is Matthieu, I'm a human. For the past few years, since I graduated, I have been traveling most of the time and working very occasionally.

I would define myself as an introvert but not shy, I'm curious about anything really. I'm always interested in understanding the causes that made people who they are. I love movies, when I had a stable life I was at the cinema as soon as I had some free time. I'm a musician, I play saxophone (went to the conservatory) and ukulele (badly). I'm also into Street Art, I am doing some serigraphy myself, it used to keep me busy during night time.

My quest : emancipate oneself towards softness and otherness, that simple

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As for hosting : I'd like to help out others, meet different people. I don't have much to share, but I'd be pleased to give whatever I can :) I enjoy spending time with surfers (when I'm able to), to exchange experiences, to learn from each other in some way. I really like to debate, on philosophical topics or others. I'm not much into clubbing, but I would always enjoy a discussion around some drink (but I warn you a single glass of beer will knock me down..).

As for surfing : When I'm on the road backpacking, my main focus is on nurturing my social circulation within different classes. I also enjoy discovering new cultures and other ways of living. The most memorable moments were the moments I spent with people I met, and not about the stuff I've visited. A country to me is about its people, it's casual/normal life, not any random monument.

I like to live in the moment, therefore I never take any pictures. To me, any truly important memories will stay in my mind or heart, so why bother capturing the rest and turn away from the present moment. If you are one of those who is addicted to instagram and photography, I would be pleased to have some explanations, I'd like to understand the purpose :)

Interests

Music, cinema, audio podcasts, philosophy, politics/economics, endless discussions, street art/serigraphy, cats, concerts, skiing, trekking, diving, napping, and apparently listing stuff.

I like to travel slowly. Usually when travelling I don't plan anything. I enjoy deciding to leave overnight, pack and go, and once there I like to improvise. I usually backpack by myself, it provide so much freedom. The thing about solo backpacking is that you are never really alone, you meet people, travel together for a while, leave and so on.

I'm mostly curious about the daily stuff, the normality, I'm not looking for the exceptional, on the contrary the casual.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Trekking into the deep jungle for a few days. 38 °C, 90% humidity, showering in the river, drinking water from that same river, sleeping in caves (with bats). Ending up throwing up all night long on the third day. Dehydrated, emptied of any energy, feeling dizzy, I struggled for every single step during the last 8h walk back. Thought for a moment I wouldn't return from this, but at the end it is a good story to tell !

Learning how to ride a motorbike in the desert in Iran.
Skydiving, diving with sea turtles, sharks and dolphins, climbing two 6000m summits...

Surviving a two days long wedding (almost died of boredom)

Teach, Learn, Share

I'll share my modest skills in music, serigraphy, cooking and some good company :) I love to play games as well, if you like to play cards, chess, or any game really, I am your man !

I'm always pleased to share some travel experiences, get some tips about some unknown places. And if ever you need a hug, ask politely and I'll gladly comply.
