I'm Matthijs, 35 years old. I live in Nijmegen, one of the oldest and very beautiful city of the Netherlands.
My profession is social work with homeless people, addicts and people with psychiatric problems in different, very special projects. I love my job and I can talk for hours about when asked Haha..
I have a dog called Ronja. She is a German Sheppard / border collie mix and very very sweet. She loves people and likes to play with everyone. She isn't intimidating or aggressive at all. 100% kindness and sweetness guaranteed.

Currently I'm travelling Asia, New Zealand and Australia until August 2016 so I can't host anyone until September. Sorry about that!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love meeting new people. Through my travelling I found that the most interesting and fun people are on the road. Since I can't be travelling whole the time myself I figured that the best way to keep on meeting new awesome people is to invite them in my house.
Also it's a good way to keep appreciating my hometown Nijmegen. You tend to forget how nice your home is but with new visitors and showing them around you get to appreciate it yourself over and over again.

My biggest passion is to go to new places, meet new people and do new things. I love travelling alone since I found that this is the best and most fun way to not only meet new people but also to get into weird, fun and adventurous situations more easily.

Music
I love going to live shows so if your I to music I can probably take you to an awesome show.

The outdoors
I take long walks with my dogs as often as possible so i can show you the best and most beautiful spots of nature in the surroundings of Nijmegen.

Food
Love to cook? my kitchen is fully equipped and at your disposal. I love to cook myself so maybe we can have a cook-off?

Going out with my friends and enjoy a good beer.
I have awesome, open-minded friends who are very welcoming to have a good conversation with a stranger in knew of the very nice bars Nijmegen has to offer. Did I mention one of my best friends owns a special brew beershop?!

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to everything that is a bit weird or refreshing. Think Pink Floyd to Nick Cave or Johnny Cash to Tame Impala and everything in between. Im not bounded by genres for sure.

Some of my favorite authors are Irvine Welsh, Charles Bukowski, Chuck Palahniuk, Hunter S Thompson and Carlos Zafon Ruiz.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Driving to Bagan, Myanmar, in the overnight bus and arrive before sunset. Hire a scooter to head to a high tempel. Climb it to the top before the sun rises and see the marvelous and mysterious landscape of Bagan slowly unfold before me for the very first time. It gives me goosebumps again just typing this..
