About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To learn German - and to learn to surf!

ABOUT ME

Well, I think I can be pretty quiet when I first meet people - especially if I meet a large group all at once. My friends disagree with this, so maybe I'm really louder than I think.

I don't dance, which is something that annoys me - it looks like fun.

At the moment, I'm living in Berlin and studying German. But soon I'm off travelling to visit my homeland of Australia (I haven't been there in 7 years!) and, since it's on the way, South Korea.

I love pubs and laid-back bars, and I love finding them when I'm in a new city. I think cheese and wine is the best combination ever, except perhaps for chocolate and coffee (but then, who doesn't?). I'm addicted to coffee.

PHILOSOPHY

Keep trying...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've shown a super lovely pair of Russians around London a bit, which I really enjoyed. Other than that, nothing - something I'd really like to change soon!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None! I definitely need improvement in this area.

Interests

I love learning languages (or trying to anyway). I've studied Russian, but since forgotten it entirely. Japanese too. (I'm actually quite good at forgetting languages). I can speak passable Spanish, and I'm trying to learn German.

I love walking around, and I get antsy when I'm waiting for a bus for some reason. I almost always give up and just walk instead. I like to read "classics", but I'm actively trying to read more modern things now (in Spanish, for practise).

I used to do quite a lot of (American-style) kickboxing and Kung Fu, but I've given that up now. Hoping to get back into KF soon, as well as maybe some yoga or pilates (especially if I can find a pilates school that doesn't cost more than a house).

I keep trying to learn the cello, and it keeps resisting.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: indie-rock, and classic.
Movies: Hmm... I love film noir, Katherine Hepburn, and brainless comedies.
Books: Dickens is definitely a favourite of mine. Russian classics are quite interesting. I'm also madly into The Three Investigators for some reason.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was once stranded on a street in Turkmenistan with no local currency after getting ripped off by a taxi driver, and a local guy who just happened to be passing took me into his house and let me sleep in his spare bed for three days. He took the time off work, bought all the food, refused to let me pay for anything, and proudly showed me his town on the Caspian sea (before arranging to get me onto a cargo boat across to Azerbaijan). And he didn't speak (much) English and I didn't speak (much) Russian. That's an amazing thing to see!

Teach, Learn, Share

If you teach me some of your language, I can learn you some good English. And we can share a bottle of wine while we do it.

Okay that's a daft answer, I know - I'll come back and redo this later!
