About Me

Simply chasing my curiosity wherever it leads.
I just love the taste of knowledge. It has a satisfying crunch. Works best if you smoke it though.

My mission is simply to explore and experience as much of this world as I can, while I can. And get a tan. A tan would be nice too.

My best memories have always arisen from throwing caution to the wind, disregarding preconceptions and diving out of my comfort zone head on into the unknown, into an experience or place or amongst people I wouldn't otherwise encounter in my life. Never have I regretted doing so and every time I emerge with a story so fantastically awesome I have to resist the urge to babble on about it to everyone I see. Some people just want to ride the bus in peace and that's fine.

I'm back at university for the second time, studying international relations. Previously I worked in broadcast television, but after seeing a bit of the world, I started actually giving a shit about the state of it and realised, maybe idealistically, that I may be in a position to actually do something about it rather than moan. I checked my privilege at the door.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

There's an aura I get from people on couchsurfing. They're weird. They kind of feel like they're nibbling on the edge of society. Like maybe they don't like the taste. They see different cultures more like alternative flavours of Doritos rather than different types of chips altogether. They're honest. They feel real.

Cheese supreme flavour is the best though.

Interests

Writing, whether it be travel, opinion, fiction, or just embedding my brain farts into binary.

I'm obsessed with the sport of Rugby League.

Love a good documentary or fiction film. And more appropriately these days, television series also. Reading as well of course, that's how to feed the soul.

Music, Movies, and Books

Any Tarantino or Coen Brothers film. All the great TV shows that we are blessed to have at the moment. Netflix is basically jesus. House of Cards, Better Call Saul, Black Mirror. These are holy. Still regard the Soprano's as the best series of all time, but Breaking Bad is a close second. Currently getting through The Wire.

My reading list is frustratingly growing at a pace no sane person can ever hope to keep up with. I usually alternate between one non-fiction, one fiction. Currently getting through The Motorcycle Diaries.

David Foster Wallace and Chistopher Hitchens are rather great.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There were some people talking loudly in the library. Everyone else was turning their heads and giving them those intense eyes you give people when they're annoying you but not quite enough to warrant a proper confrontation so you just hope your piercing gaze will somehow telepathically seep into their neurological system and short circuit something and they'll immediately become aware of their obnoxious yapping and shut up.

I just went over there and asked them politely to be quiet. I was expecting thunderous applause until I remembered we were in the library.

Teach, Learn, Share

Just because we want to save the world doesn't mean we can't have fun doing it.
