ABOUT ME

I am 18 years old at the time of writing this profile. I was born in London, grew up in Boston, and went back to London for university. I live for new experiences and people. I am somewhat a hedonist and somewhat a romantic. I go out almost nightly. If you really want to understand me fully please read the complete works of Phillip Larkin and Steppenwolf by Herman Hesse.

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy is a work in progress, but the current trajectory of my life, if it were dictated by the state of my mind and my heart, is summed up most beautifully and adequately by Charles Baudelaire (translated from original French):

"You have to be always drunk. That's all there is to it—it's the only way. So as not to feel the horrible burden of time that breaks your back and bends you to the earth, you have to be continually drunk.

But on what? Wine, poetry or virtue, as you wish. But be drunk.

And if sometimes, on the steps of a palace or the green grass of a ditch, in the mournful solitude of your room, you wake again, drunkenness already diminishing or gone, ask the wind, the wave, the star, the bird, the clock, everything that is flying, everything that is groaning, everything that is rolling, everything that is singing, everything that is speaking. . .ask what time it is and wind, wave, star, bird, clock will answer you: "It is time to be drunk! So as not to be the martyred slaves of time, be drunk, be continually drunk! On wine, on poetry or on virtue as you wish."

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

I once rappelled down a 110 foot chasm into an ancient Anasazi hunting ground in the Moab Desert in Utah, USA with my two brothers. Coming out into a valley, I drank the purest water I had ever tasted, for it had been filtered through rocks for 50 years before reaching the point of extraction: a tiny trickling thread of water at the base of a massive cliff. This was a hidden prehistoric jungle in the middle of a desert.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

The one thing that surprised me most about the real world is how mane cliches are spot on true. How many old British professors smoke pipes and grow beards, how many rich women in New York have little dogs and obvious facelifts, how much love is the ruling force in all life.
