About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Visit every continent (including Antartica) by the time I am 30.

ABOUT ME

I always hate doing these sort of things, but here goes!

I was never much of a traveler until I spent a year abroad in Germany studying on an Erasmus placement.

During the year I had some many adventures and experiences and made so many amazing friends (that I still keep in touch with and meet up with regularly).

When I finally got back home, I realised that the world was so much bigger than my home town. There are so many fun and exiting people to meet in the world that I wanted to be a part of it.

When I'm older, I want to be the old man at the party who always has 1,000 stories to tell, and people think to themselves; "wow, he had an amazing life!".

So, I packed my bags, moved to London and planned the next adventure. I have lived in London for 3 years, and also did a 3 month secondment in Zurich through work. Spent 5 weeks working in Miami before doing a 5 month tour of South and Central America.

This was by far the best experience of my life and I have really enjoyed meeting so many people and learning so much history about the region. My next goal is to visit every continent by the time I am 30.

So now that my background is done, I guess a little bit more about me:

I am generally very laid back and relaxed. Although I like to have some things planned, constant bullying from my friends has taught me to take a step back and let things take care of themselves.

My dream is to see the world and experience those parts of a city and a culture that only the locals know about, the REAL culture, not what you see and read about in the books.

PHILOSOPHY

Lao Tzu:
If you are depressed you are living in the past.
If you are anxious you are living in the future.
If you are at peace you are living in the present.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Once I get back to a permanent situation, I would be happy to let people stay over or show them around Zurich.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I guess I haven't done any "official" couch surfing via the website before, but one of my favorite traveling stories was when I went to visit a friend in Helsinki and stayed on his sofa for a few days.

I met Ville in Germany during my time there and we hadn't seen each other for 3.5 years. I was a little nervous about seeing him again in case we had both changed and didn't get along as well, but as soon as we saw each other it was like old times again!

We did an epic tour for 10 days straight, with lots of site seeing and lots of partying. In the space of 10 days our journey consisted of the following:

- 1 night in Helsinki, Finland,
- Over night ferry to Stockholm, Sweden,
- 1 night in Stockholm, Sweden ,
- Over night ferry back to Helsinki,
- Day trip to Tallinn, Estonia,
- Flight to Frankfurt to meet 4 other friends from our - time in Germany,
- Party in Frankfurt for a night,
- Train to Heilbronn, Germany (where we all met) to meet another 4 friends.
- 2 days of fun in Heilbronn, reminiscing on our year as Erasmus students.

As with most traveling stories, it is hard to put into words how fun the experience was. But try to imagine a group of guys and girls who became your 2nd family while you were living away from home for the first time, and after not having seen each other for 3.5 years, all meeting again in the city where you met. Brilliant fun!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My best experience so far was quitting a very well paid job with great career prospects to travel Latin America. It was a very difficult decision to walk away from such a good opportunity but was the best thing I ever did.

But, if you want to hear all of the amazing the stories from the trip, you need to come grab a beer with me sometime.

Teach, Learn, Share

Happy to help teach people a little about fitness and/kickboxing.

Also would love to help those people stuck in the "rat race" of life to break free and take that big step to take time out of work and go travelling.
