ABOUT ME

30-year old guy, originally from the USA, but having spent most of his 20s abroad, five of the last six years in Kyrgyzstan. I'm into history, music, good beer, hiking, meeting people and swapping stories. Discovering new foods is a major part of what motivates me to travel. I like people who are curious about the world and generally liberal-minded.

Right now I'm a graduate student in Nationalism Studies, writing my MA thesis on conceptions of Russian identity as found in Soviet punk rock.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like to see and do things that most tourists don't. People are usually more memorable than places when you recall a trip.

Unfortunately I'm no longer able to host at my current place (Budapest) but when I lived in Kyrgyzstan I hosted people in my apartment in Bishkek and it was cool to be reminded from time to time what an interesting place I lived, because when you're a permanent expat you tend to miss the forest for the trees.
