About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To cycle from London to Belgrade
ABOUT ME
I love to travel, but I don't do so much these days. I'm self employed and do various different things, ranging from translation, copy editing, research and selling cheese on a farmers' market. This gives me more freedom but less money than a lot of people, so traveling generally involves finding the cheapest option. This usually means either staying with friends or making new ones, which is something I've found Couch Surfing to be great for. I like to go out and socialise, but I'm more of a pub person than a clubber, especially now I', getting on a bit. When travelling I pretty much go with the flow, and I'm not demanding at all. I like to talk about politics, history, language and what life is like in different places. I think I'm pretty easy going with people I don't know, and I get on with a lot of different kinds of people.
PHILOSOPHY
Never throw a book away.
Combined with an obsessive-compulsive tendency to raid charity shops for all vaguely interesting reading material, this means moving house becomes an operation of ever-increasing difficulty.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I joined CS in May 2011 so I could surf round Macedonia. I had some great experiences. I hosted a couple of times in London, and I'd love to do so again, but my current housemates aren't keen, so it's not possible at the moment. I'm hoping to cycle across Europe with a friend, which will only be possible from a money point of view if I can find a lot of CS hosts on the way.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I'm amazed and delighted that there's a community of people willing to offer sleeping space and friendship for travelers. This may be a platitude, but my experience in Macedonia boosted my faith in humanity and made me want to participate more fully in this amazing project.
Interests
History, language, politics and most of all challenging accepted truths by comparing differnt views of the same issue seen from different perspectives. That's probably the main reason why I want to travel and meet people from different places.
I also like riding my bike.
