About Me

Hello potential couch lender,
we are a creative young couple from Melbourne Australia and writing this about me section is the hardest thing we have ever done.seriously this is our fourth try. About a year ago we had our first date Harry was then working full time and Matt was packing up his life ready to leave to go traveling around asia. clearly things have changed and we just couldn't leave each other behind and so we find ourselves here travelling around europe.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

like most places europe has its up and downs. its ups? the people here are truly wonderful. its downs? accommodation is seriously outrageous. couch surfing is our saviour allowing us to make new friends and afford to have a place to rest our head at night.

Interests

Matt: I guess my main interests are fashion and writing. I was studying to become a writer but have since changed into a fashion/business course. apart from that i do a bit of design work on my computer when i feel in the mood for it. i just enjoy thinking about and making things really. i watch a lot of movies and cook a lot of food. I'm no chef but i can whip you up something pretty tasty. i enjoy trivia nights and boardgames (my favourite is cluedo). I grew up in a tiny little town on the beach in Australia. stemming from that i really love being out in nature. walking, swimming, picnicking etc. i read a lot of books and online articles. and yeah i guess thats it?

Harry:
My main interest is art; I am always observing shapes and colours and making doodles and drawings from these. I completed my degree in Art Education, so I will be an art teacher when I return to Australia, but am looking at doing a bit more study in Fine Arts.
At home in Melbourne I am always collecting things from my walks around the city- like nuts and bolts or pieces of glass to make little compositions or sculptures for my room. I also love going for walks an nabbing plants and greenery from the streets.
I enjoy making things and doing things.

Music, Movies, and Books

Matt: my all-time favourite song is where is my mind by the pixies but don't base my music taste off of that because it is honestly so eclectic it makes it impossible to describe. I find a lot of my music on soundcloud and i guess day to day i listen to that sort of minimal electronic stuff. when i am feeling a little fun though ill listen to 80s groove or tacky 90s RNB. and then other times i like a little bit of ambient chilled out stuff like bonobo or phaeleh. but i can't describe my music taste without telling you that my absolute guilty pleasure is Beyonce and i make no excuses for myself.

i watch movies depending on my mood. usually you'll find me watching comedy, coming of age, adventure or a good old disney movie. other times I'm in the mood for a thriller or for a bit of a cry in a drama. favourite movie of all time though has to be almost famous. you can't beat it.

i have the most bizarre taste in books. for the most part i enjoy books the most if they have a younger protagonist. i guess maybe because i can relate to them a little more. i also seem to have a bit of a thing for Australian literature (biased maybe?). however i seriously love a bit of golden age crime too (weird i know). agatha christie can do no wrong. some of my favourite books are catcher in the rye by J.D. Salinger, a fraction of the whole by steve toltz, cloud street by tim winton, the power of one by bryce courtenay, jasper jones by craig silvey, the slap by cristos tsiolkas and dracula by bram stoker.

Harry:
Well after reading Matts little intro there- you know who I get my music and movies from. My taste in music is as eclectic as Matts. Give me something funky like Grace Jones or Bryan Ferry and I'm there- but can always listen to something Atmospheric like Sigur-Ros, Bon Iver or Seake.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Matt: i think amazing is so subjective. i could put down some thrill seeking adventure i have had or some great honour i have been awarded but i think the things that i find the most amazing are the personal hurdles that i am most proud to have overcome. i think i have been pretty brave with my life (and i know that me and harry are going to have very similar answers to this question here but i don't care) in the sense that i have uprooted myself several times and dropped everything to be in a new place. i am most proud of how i do what feels right for me at the time no matter how much comfort and security i have to leave behind. and so i guess the most amazing thing i have done is to move around Australia and travel around the world and the sacrifices i have made to do so.

Harry:
I think the most amazing thing I have done was to move to Melbourne after I finished my degree in Sydney. I only knew one person, had only a place to stay for a week and I managed to make a life for myself down there- just because I wanted a change. Having to adapt and act as an adult made me feel so accomplished and I think the change has made me come more into myself.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I mean i think we're fun people to be around and thats the main thing right? We know how to cook delicious things so thats a plus. we laugh a lot and get along with most people pretty easily. Harry will most likely leave his drawings all over your house and who doesn't love free art? as much as we like our nights out we can also seriously appreciate a night in so long as it includes, movies, games, delicious food and some good people. between the two of us we have travelled to some pretty interesting places and are happy to offer you some free advice. apart from that hopefully we can bring you lots of laughs and two new friends.

Countries I’ve Visited
