About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Education and Excitement!

ABOUT ME

Hey! I'm Matt. I never really know what to say in About Me sections, but here it goes.
I'm a University student, musician, writer, artist. All that stereotypical artsy stuff. I'm located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and I try to travel as often as I can.

PHILOSOPHY

I've always been one to think of one way of life, but live another, so philosophy isn't really my strong point. Lately I've been looking at life in a sense of, do or don't, either way will work. I try to accept invitations as often as possible, meet new people, and do what I like.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I lived in a very popular couchsurfing house in Fredericton N.B. for two years, and stayed with the site after I moved out into an apartment with a few folks from that house, and began hosting surfers with them, as well as actively surfing while travelling. Now that I'm out on my own again I don't have the best hosting abilities, but I still try whenever I can.

I've only surfed a handfull of times personally, but I hope to raise that number a bit whenever the opportunity comes up.

Unfortunately my current home/work/schooling, does not allow me to host as often as I used to. I hope to surf whenever I can though, and will gladly look to couchsurfing for people to meet and places to stay.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had very few bad experiences with couch surfing, practically none side from my cereal going missing once (someone else in my house was hosting this person, and the only reason I was bothered by it was because no one asked me if the surfer could have any. He had all of it.) All of the surfers I've experienced have been interesting, and well natured people.

Anyone I've surfed with, who have hosted me were amazing people who gladly open their homes to perfect strangers.

Interests

Education, both art and science, is near the top of this list. Along with staying healthy. I love to travel, but I hardly ever do, hopefully I can get some time to myself and take off.

Music is a huge interest of mine. I listen to it (who doesn't?), I play it, write it, record it. It's pretty much what I do.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'll try to get through these in order.

Movies:
I like a lot of diffrent styles of movies. I've been known to watch Goldfinger, and Mona Lisa Smile in the same night (depending on my company). I like movies that are over the top, something just so awesome that the movie wouldn't have been as good without. Think the fridge in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Music:
Anything really, though when I first started developing a real love for music was when I started listening to punk. Punk will always take top spot, even though my tastes have been refined to a less hard core group of bands. Lately, as in the last few years, I've been widening my spectrum to include just about everything else, from classic country, to hip-hop, to indie rock, and more. My playlist is gigantic, and only outdone by one person I've physically met.

Books:
I don't read as much as I'd like to, that is, I start reading a book, set it down and pick up another, and to be completely honest, it was the Harry Potter books that got me back into reading after high school. At the moment I am currently a quarter of the way through, The Once and Future King, The God Particle, and An Apple a Day, plus a few more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most amazing things I've done is stand on the top of Signal Hill in Saint John's Newfoundland on a windy, rainy day, and look across the Atlantic Ocean. Not far behind that is taking a train, The Ocean, from Halifax N.S. to Montreal QC to learn French at l'Universite de Montreal. I also had a blast skipping stones on Lake Ontario one rainy summer evening.
