About Me

Hey everyone,
my name is Matthias, I am a 26 year old student from Mainz (close to Frankfurt).

In my "usual life" I am a studying economics in graduate grade, working part time in development asssistance, playing soccer, hitting the gym a few times a week and trying to meet friends as often as I get time for it. I also enjoy cooking a lot - my Thai Curry is notorious among my friends!

Surfing has become a real passion for me. Whenever I find the time and money I pack a boardbag, (a friend) pick my destination and go on a surf-trip. Surfing has brought me to many places already, including Australia, Indonesia or Senegal.

I prefer a pub over a club, tent over hotel, hoodie over suit, rock over hiphop, salty over sweet, Vans over fancy shoes, tea over coffee, small town over big city, automn over spring, sea over mountain, Borussia Dortmund over Bayern Munich & sleep over everything.

I am very easy-going, open-minded and curious person. Sometimes I really like being silly and I fool around. It's just fun if you manage to make people laugh. Diversity is what best describes my interests. You can have a crazy night out with me or discuss politics, philosophy and religion for hours at the kitchen table. I can enjoy electro-festivals the same as a crazy mad-ass rock/metal -concert. One day I feel good in boarshorts, the next day even better in a suit. Most important to me are the people that sorround me and that I have a good time with them.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As a traveller couchsurfing gives me the opportunity to not only visit a new place but also get in touch with locals. This makes it a new and more exciting experience. 6 years ago I did couchsurfing for the first time (in Tenerife) and I really enjoyed it. Recently, friends reminded my about couchsurfing at told me about their amazing experiences. Next trip I'll give it another shot!

Teach, Learn, Share

Obviously some "bad words" in German and you'll get an introduction on how to properly down a German beer. Also, I can teach you how to make a good Thai-Curry , how to walk on your hands, how to play some basic chords on a guitar and if you're not too goofy you might borrow my holy surfboard.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My surfboard, my guitar and my spirit.
