About Me
Mauricio Gomez Rocha
Mauricio Gomez Rocha was born in Ecatepec, Mexico, on September 22, 1977.
Mauricio began his artistic career at the early age of four.
Since then, he has dedicated most of his time to painting.
His early influences came from the city of Mexico which is characterized by the diversity of prehispanic cultures which even today continues to exert their unique characteristics and traditions.
Mauricio studied Fine Arts at the National Academy of San Carlos in Mexico city
where he took painting and drawing courses as well.
His work is oriented to show a different perspective of contemporary society based
on the new global culture brought about by political, cultural and economical changes
reflected on a massive concentration of people in big cities.
In 1996, Mauricio joined a group of artists "Barrio del Arte" and oversaw several
cultural and artistic events, such as “The longest mural in the world” which was painted by 1800 children on a surface of paper.
In 1997, he was commissioned by his municipality to paint murals in public
institutions such as public schools and sport centers.
In 2001, Mauricio went to Canada to improve his English and more importantly, to exhibit his artworks in some international events such as The International Students Day as well as in galleries in Vancouver.
In 2002, Mauricio came to Tokyo, Japan attracted by the Japanese art Zen
