Über mich
My name is Mauricio Tafur Salgado and in this moment I am a divinely tormented +first gen born to proudly subversive Colombians with graduate degrees + brown skinned + aspiring bio-regionalist + cis-hetero + partnered + artist pursuing justice and healing through a decolonial framework. I come from the everglades watershed, my antepasados and a solid plate of my grandma’s arepas and buñuelos. My educational background begins in the public schools and community centers of South Florida among migrant farm workers. It was amongst those folks that I learned the power of the theatre to break through patriarchal and generational chasms.
Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin
I do a lot of community work and I travel a lot for conferences, gatherings, strategic meetings, etc. When traveling, I prefer getting to know a community through its members instead of its hotels. It's my responsibility to remain empathetic and listening deeply to the needs of a community and so I have always found that sitting with locals is the best way to do that.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe
I co-founded Artists Striving To End Poverty (ASTEP), an organization whose mission it is to connect performing and visual artists with youth from under resourced communities in the U.S. and around the world in order to imagine, think critically, and conceive a world without poverty. As ASTEP's Program Director, I taught and devised with artists of all ages across the United States, parts of Peru, South Africa and India. Those brilliant young artists taught me to see that the theatre is a space to decolonize the mind; where we emerge from our daily masks and shake loose the numbing fear of isolation; where we can reconnect the body and the imagination and breathe deeply into the trauma trapped in our hips; where we rehearse revolution, compromise, rage, tolerance, strength and vulnerability.
