About Me

Hey I’m max and I’m new to couchsurfing but excited to be a part of the community... At the moment I'm on a road trip across the U.S. I like to meet new people with interesting stories. I’m always down for just about anything. I never stop searching for meaning in life, and often find it when I least expect it. I love meeting good human beings, the ones that share my values of friendship, equality, honesty, and love for this earth. I'm definitely a hippie at heart, passionate about this earth, and try to live sustainably . I have many different interests. Soccer is undoubtedly the biggest. If you share that interest, let’s be friends. If not that’s cool too, Ill still be your friend. I like to stay informed on a lot of different topics: world news, current events, culture, economics, sustainability, and pretty much everything expect which pop star is dating which movie star. But more than anything I love hearing other people’s opinions and love when they talk about something they care about. I try not to take myself too seriously. I laugh at inappropriate things. I love comedy that is clever and makes you think. (ex. Bo burnham). I’ve had lots of different jobs, a few odd and interesting. One of my favorites was as an ESL teacher abroad. I taught for two years in Thailand and China and loved living there. I was able to do some traveling throughout SE Asia and have been to some amazing destinations around the world (and I love talking about my favorites!).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’m traveling across the U.S. starting from my hometown of Cheverly, MD heading westward and looking for adventure. Along the way I’m hoping to meet some cool people, share a lot of laughs, and meet interesting hosts eager to share their local town or city with me. I’m searching for good conversation, good vibes, and a humble home for the night. And I’m looking to share experiences and make memories along the way. I’ll be honest I’m using couchsurfing as a way for me to afford/enjoy traveling across the US. I’m a solo traveler, and staying in hotels by myself is frankly boring, lonely, and expensive. So if you’re available, I’d love to meet up with you and share some stories from the road and learn about what you feel makes your town so special. I really appreciate any hospitality I can get. I promise at a minimum I’ll be polite, reasonably clean, and mildly entertaining. I’m happy to help out in the kitchen, and fancy myself a decent cook too. So let me know if you have a couch to sleep on! Thanks in advance! Courage. 💪🏼

Music, Movies, and Books

MOVIES/TV: Not really into scary movies. Everything else-- if it’s got good cinematography, acting, or writing I’ll enjoy it. Indie-films preferred. Garden State, Midnight in Paris, Waking Life, Once, The Terminal, Cloud Atlas, Drive, Mr. Nobody, Caddyshack, Hot Rod, Star Wars>Star Trek, Game of Thrones, The Office, and holiday baking shows. MUSIC- by mood. I mostly stick to indie rock, electronic, edm, synthpop, chillwave, tropical house, classic rock, but like to explore random genres occasionally— French rap, 80s one hit wonders, and songs about tractors when I want to let my hair down. I’m always looking for recommendations though. BOOKS- currently reading the next 100 years by george freidman-- Interesting predictions about our upcoming century…

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well if I had to pick one… I completed the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Vietnam. I bought a motorbike in Vietnam, and drove it from Hanoi in the north to Ho Chi Minh in the South. I put a lot of miles on to that thing, and beat that bike to hell. I definitely got my $200 worth. Over the course of about 4 weeks I traveled from town to town, stopping along the way, meeting locals and fellow travelers, and driving through truly spectacular mountain and coastal scenery. I made the whole journey without any major accidents or broken bones along the way. And went from an amateur driver to a slightly more experienced amateur driver in the land of the motorbikes.

Teach, Learn, Share

I believe everyone has a story. Life is the culmination of one’s choices. It’s these choices that makes us who we are and define the path that our life takes. And these choices, whether right or wrong, big or small, good or bad, are what lead to experiences and perspective and insight and life lessons and stories. And that is what I’m most interested in sharing and learning from – stories.
