About Me

I'm from a tiny rock somewhere in the South Pacific, it's called New Caledonia, one of these places no one's ever heard of, which is a brilliant conversation starter. It's an island where life is easy and time seems to flow slower than anywhere else. Bit small though !

I realised a few years ago that I was completely inept at being happy. My life didn't have much positive meaning and a lot of negative. I was going through the motions mindlessly. I knew nothing about anything, I was feeling like I wasn't where I was meant to be.
So I set out onto a new path, started traveling again to figure out how I to live and find more questions to ask myself.

It's not like I've found any clear cut answers but traveling has shed a light on a few of the stories I was telling myself to make sense of the world. Stories, or lies rather, meant to shield and distance myself from a reality I didn't wish to bear.
Boy, was that a slap in the face ! Confirmation bias is a bitch and it takes constant attention and awareness not to succumb to it.
I think the greatest virtue of traveling is that it redefines freedom and gives it the value it deserves. More than happiness or comfort or love, freedom is where it all starts. We sure as shit can live well, long and comfortably in a state of servitude but I reckon the intensity of life as conscious beings has freedom as it's pre-requirement.

Although freedom is essentiallit can be pretty destructive without any structure. I've found that to pair it with responsibility balances everything out. That way one's not in chaos all the time, responsibility seems to push us in the right direction.

My favorite past time is conversation. Surprising ain't it ? Exchanging points of views, stories and opinions is, to me, the most entertaining thing there is.
It's a great way to gather knowledge and to broaden the mind as long as it's done well. Understanding another requires respect, acceptance, patience and focus. I'm pretty sure if we conversed and listened carefully rather than think about what our answer is going to be, the world would be a very different place.
I guess my point is that the object of conversation ought to be truth rather than trying to conquer or defeat an opponent, that way even if it turns out you're wrong, you are not at a loss. Can't remember from whom I stole that line from but I'm sure he or she was pretty smart.

When I'm not chatting up a storm I like to fuck off somewhere in nature. Trekking's right up my alley, since it's completely free and is a great way to contemplate nature, second only to flying. Though one might argue that's just a question of perspective. It'd be a good argument too.
Complete isolation is necessary for me, hell I'd say it's necessary for anyone trying to think clearly. That's made what I truly need in order to live abundantly clear : not much.
Plus you've got to spend time with yourself, a lot of time with yourself, If you ever hope to spend quality time with others and forge meaningful relationships. Right ?

So, yeah, I'm sort of a nomad.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I mean that's pretty self explanatory right ? Couchsurfing's pretty much the only social media worth using because it actually does connect people offline. That's pretty much it : to share the lives of people all round the globe if only for a few days. It's about meeting people that are willing to extend a welcoming and trusting hand to a complete stranger and share for the sake of sharing. People that understand there is no such thing as a stranger, just those we still haven't had the time to get to know.

Fortunately, I've got loads of time.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite playlist is about a thousand songs long, so it's a tad difficult to list. But my heart has been stolen by classic rock and hard rock, ACDC, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and all that jazz.

As for books the list is even longer so I won't even bother. Philosophy's my cup of tea, Nietzsche's my soul mate. Nough' said.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Piloting a small Cesna over the New Caledonian lagoon. Amongst other things.

Teach, Learn, Share

I don't own much but I do have a lot of time in my hands, I'd be happy to share that.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I think at the very beginning I felt as if I owed something to the people who opened their homes to me. As if I were obligated to give something in return.
Emphasis on the "in return".
And that's the thing, I want to give, not give back.

I hope my future hosts will trust I'm a decent human being that is only able to repay kindness with kindness.

Also I'm an awesome cook and will make you dinner. And I do the dishes.
