ABOUT ME
I'm Sonja and I'm 32 years old. My attitude to life is to just enjoy it, let nothing hold you back. Do crazy fun things and don't regret them, let people into your life and be good to them, life is full of surprises :).
I love travelling and exploring the world from the ordinary point of view instead of the tourist one, by myself, with friends/Rob or with family :). I was born in Moscow but we moved to the Netherlands soon after that, I am half Russian and half Dutch.
I also really love nature and animals. We have a really sweet dog and cat, their names are Indy and Odin. They're great company! We also have three chickens in the garden! I live together with my husband Rob, our 5-year-old son Tobias and our 2-year-old daughter Terra ^^

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I try to participate by hosting whenever I have time. Meeting people from all over the world is great and spending time with them is even better. Whether they want to see the city, eat together, play boardgames or just have a conversation it's fine :).
Surfing has also been a wonderful experience, it's inspiring to see how many positive and nice people there are in this world. Couchsurfing has literally broadened my horizon on society and life :).
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I think couchsurfing is one of the best ways to meet new people and get to know a country. It was amazing surfing in many different countries and I've met some great people. They showed me around and we went to places that I would never have seen if I had stayed in a hostel or hotel.
Hosting has been great so far as well, there are so many wonderful people in this world and this is a fantastic way to meet more of them :).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
- I have been on two exchanges when I was 14 and 16 years old. I visited a family in America and one in Canada. It was really great to see the country from the local point of view and have a great welcome and pleasant stay.
- Also in 2012 I lived in Ireland for about 5 months for my studies, it is such an amazing country and I was really grateful that I got the opportunity to travel and see more of the country while I was there :).
- In 2016 when I was in Malaysia I climbed mt Kinabalu. It might not seem like a big achievement for avid climbers, but for me it really was a mental and physical challenge that made me feel so proud after doing it (adding a 4 hour via ferrata after reaching the summit might not have been the greatest idea for someone unexperienced, haha). But it was so amazing, the views, the air, the almost magical feeling up there :-).
- Couchsurfing in general has really opened my eyes to how great people are (especially compared to all the things they tell you in the news ;)..) No matter your age, gender, ethnicity, people are people and we are on a planet full of amazing souls.
- Sounds a little bit cliché, but becoming a mother has also been such an amazing experience. It has added a whole new dimension to my life :-).
