ABOUT ME

I've been kicking about in Asia for a while now and I'm hoping to live here for a few more years and see as much of this continent as possible! After taking a trip to China in 2013 I've been somewhere in Asia pretty much ever since. I've spent probably too much of that time travelling and the rest of it teaching in various places. I'm currently based in Qingdao.

Hosting, surfing, meeting new people!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I used to live in Hong Kong and hosted there, meeting some amazing people. I had a flat with a couple of mates and we'd take our guests around and show them some of the insiders Hong Kong. I've also done a bit of surfing myself and hope to continue to do so. Anyone and everyone is welcome to crash, hangout, stay a couple of nights.

I've also used WWOOF and Workaway websites to stay and work with people - working with some real geezers in Serbia, drinking Rakia and digging trenches, and working with one of Vietnam's only animal shelters in Hoi An. I recommend a workaway experience!

Centres d'intérêt

I'm after little more than good conversation with good music and good people. I love a hike and I spend a lot of time at the swimming pool. Give me some time on a train or a trip on a moped and I'm a happy man.

If I'm honest, anything relaxed is good for me. I just want to chill.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

My favourite director is probably Paul Thomas Anderson, and my favourite film of his wavers between Magnolia (for its scope and emotional impact) and There Will Be Blood (stylistically). I'll often say that my favourite film is Once Upon A Time in America, I don't actually have a favourite film but if pressed I like to have an answer and I Once Upon A Time in America includes all the elements of films that I love. Other favourites include Thin Red Line, Eureka, Enter The Void, The Big Lebowski and City of God, to name a few.

I'm in to all types of music - and love to have new suggestions. If I had to name a favourite band it would probably have to be Radiohead, and favourite artist would be Burial or Bonobo depending on my mood. Although in many ways Aphex Twin is the centre of all of my musical experience, seeing him live in France early in the morning was one of the most surreal moments of my life.

Books is even harder to cover but if pressed I usually tell people my favourite book is The Unlimited Dream Company by JG Ballard, and I'll often tell people Ballard is my favourite author. I really enjoy the surrealist novels of the 20th century so Ballard and Burroughs generally get most of my attention but I try and read as indiscriminately as possible. Please give me more recommendations!
