Hey!

I'm Maxime - and although I first became a member of couchsurfing in 2015, I am only now starting to try to actually use it!

I love meeting people and coming from a family of travelers it's all I've done my whole life. I grew up in both the Netherlands and Belgium, and my tour agents parents have been dragging me all over the world since before I had even celebrated my first birthday. And right after my 18th, I discovered the beauty of traveling by yourself and meeting even more people. I fell in love with Latin-America on that very first trip and over the last few years I have spent way more time living there than in Europe. Currently I am living in Cajamarca, in Northern Peru, where I work for an NGO that focuses on human and environmental rights.

Because you haven't really visited a place if you haven't spent time with someone who actually lives there.

Interests

As you'd probably guess, I love traveling. I like to travel long and slowly. Love hitchhiking, love adventures. I love nature, and also try to live consciously and think about the environment and our planet and its people. I love discovering new places, hiking, camping. I love lakes, swimming, mountains. Mountains! Mostly mountains. No matter how difficult the altitude it makes to live in the mountains.

I love laughing, having a drink with friends, a good party, festivals. Being surrounded by likeminded people that make me happy.

I'm also a writer - I blog, I write poems, stories, and hopefully one day I find the time (and mostly the patience) to finish my book.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love all kinds of music. I love reading and can appreciate a good movie, but I am the worst person to watch a movie with. I either talk too much or I fall asleep.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have tons of stories to share since I am the kind of person that always ends up in the weirdest of situations. And I would love to hear your stories! I can also cook for you but am definitely not a chef so don't expect too much (also don't ask for anything 'typical Belgian' cause you'll end up with just fries). But I am great at buying beers for you (and by you I mean us)!
